To be fair to Double, it's very different from recent Rider. Though not quite as simplistic (in a good way) in its approach as Kuuga or Agito, I think it's pretty much viewed as a good follow-up to what's been some of the worse Heisei shows.
I don't dislike any of them, if that was a question to come.
As for Kiva, there was a lot that didn't quite hit my standard, such as characters, etc. But overall the show left a lasting impression. The music was definitely refreshing when compared to the Den-O songs.
I didn't mind the lack of horror motif, because I tend to think from a thematical standpoint as opposed to the "Did a show do this?" standpoint. Kiva deals with family more than any other theme, and I think it held to that when all was said and done.
Of course, my praise is mostly because family is one of my favorite themes for anything, but hey. If I like a theme chances are I'll like the show overall.

Oh, you mean, with out having to be IXA? That makes more sense. It's Pretty much TOEI trying to make women inferior by shortening their lifespans/time when they become Riders and/or make them utterly useless.

I've been a Toku fan for YEARS, but I was mainly a sentai fan. Kiva was the first rider to pull me in, hold onto me, and get me mad in love with it. Now i'm KR fan all the way (plus recent SS has just... blown since Geki)
Here's my response to the series in specifics...

Wataru - I HATED him until about halfway through, but i think that was the point. Wataru had to come into his own and stop living in his father's shadow. He did so wonderfully. Not much to say about him. I've seen Seto Kouji perform live before he was in Kiva so seeing him go from kids stuff to this; I was thoroughly impressed with him.
Nago - As they said in the concert, Nago was supposed to actually be the most childish of them all. It's shown in how he becomes a bounty hunter. He has that VERY little kid "MY WAY OR NO WAY!" attitude, then when he doesn't have to be the badass, he can resort to being more silly and is able to feel inferior to others. Nago goes through that rollercoaster that most kids go though, he just does it in a shorter span which is what makes people hate him.
Megumi - Battle-wise useless. Character-wise i thought she was a wonderful foil to Nago. She was the immature one when he was being a hardass, then when he became childish; she took care of him more or less. I liked their dynamic. Though I do agree that it's the typical Japanese sexism that her and Yuri sucked when it came to fighting.
Shima - Had no purpose except to fire people and serve as a gap between the years. Did not like him at all really.
Kengo - Loved and hated him, and I loved that about his character. It's rare in a toku that I develop some real world feelings about characters. I would get so mad at Kengo and just yell at him for his behavior. He was very 'real' in my opinion. People flip **** like that and just become bastards due to one situation. I loved him for that, and loved when he came around.
Shizuka - I loved her. Every shut up. LOL She was Wataru's foil, and she did good. I liked her for what she was ^_^
Master - WHY HAS NO ONE MENTIONED HOW HILARIOUS/AWESOME MASTER WAS? LOL
Mio - She was such a fuckin bitch. I thought she was cute in the beginning because I was like "Aww! Wataru is gonna get a little girlfriend!" Then when she became Queen... after that I just was praying for Bishop to just end her... [hide]Thank god Bishop DID end her!! And wtf is up with "I'm gonna kill you Taiga... no wait... i'm gonna save you"[/hide] She was so scheming and manipulative, but in a way i loved to hate her. She was evil without being straight up evil, and sometimes that's scarier.
Taiga - GOD i felt so sorry for Taiga! All Taiga wanted was what he was SUPPOSED to have. And yet, everything that was his birthright was taken from him by the bastard child of his mom and "some human". And the poor sap loved Mio so much. [hide]That bitch stabbed him during their wedding and who was it trying to call off Bishop?? That's right. Taiga. [/hide] Everything bad Taiga did was out of emotion, rather than lust for power or anything like that. I loved him and really felt for him.
1986
Otoya - HATED him in the beginning (i've dated too many womanizers so he got off on the wrong foot with me). By the end I loved him and he had redeeming moments, but I thought he was all around weak and a sleeve. I did find him really hilarious though and he always did make me laugh. Also I really loved his relationship with Queen. Their dynamic was so entrancing, I kept hoping and hoping good things for them... but alas.
Yuri - Didn't like her from start to finish. And i couldn't stand the sexism behind her being like "I'M A WARRIOR! I SHALL AVENGE MY MOTHER!" then she gets with Otoya and becomes with stupid quiet girl, who wants to be Otoya's wife. Then she becomes obsessed over the Maya thing. She drove Otoya away and she was overall annoying and weak. HOWEVER, I do love her actress. She's young but is so good!
Queen Maya - Obviously my favorite person of the whole series. in 86 she was so childish and just messed with Otoya, and mocked King when he got mad at it. Then she ended up growing up a little bit as she fell for him. She went through such a huge maturity and growth in the series. And in 08 she thought as a mother, and acted as a mother. Wataru and Taiga were her everything, and she just showed how much she'd grown through her exile. I loved her so much.
King - In the beginning I didn't like him. (Notice a theme? Most people grew through the series and characters I hated matured/grew and became great) I though of him just as a throw-away badguy who looked a bit too much like Gackt. Though, the second I started to like him was when he stalked Otoya, then threw Zanbatt into the wall. You could tell it's probably the first time he's truly felt love and jealousy. My heart broke for him a little, because how do you reverse being nothing but King to Queen? You could tell he loved her, especially with the sword thing. However, because of who he is he couldn't ALLOW himself to love her. Cuz think... He kills Queen because he loves her. Then the Queen is dead, and then King would have to be executed for loving her. It would've caused massive hell. He did things his own way and it still destroyed him. You really saw how love and jealousy can twist a person and I felt so sorry for him.
Bishop - LOOOOOOOOORD! Loved him. Loved him from the beginning. And Bishop was originally only supposed to be in like 6 eps, so for him to pretty much go batshit and become a main baddie was thrilling. He was just terrifying in hsi demeanor and normally calm way he carried himself. When he went crazy I was so excited haha. I love when big baddies come out of nowhere, surprise me, and even scare me a little (like Long from Geki <3). He was a great character overall, and at times it seemed like he was the TRUE ruler of Checkmate Four. He had to keep all those dumb asses in line. He was just excellent.
Rook - I love him lol, no compliants really, just wish he would've have a bigger part. He was like an extended monster-of-the-day, and he deserved more than that.
Arms Monsters
Jiro - HATED HIM for so long. I admit he's hot as **** and i did love that about him. But just his personality, i hated him and I think it was supposed to be that way. I liked him a lot better in '08. And I think all the Arms Monsters showed some growth in their protection of Otoya. I wish there was a lot more of them and like their lives together.
Rikki - So awkward and so imposing LOL. I love Rikki! He's a very fresh take on Frankenstein and was a constant source of amusement for me.
Ramon - AHHH SO CUUUUUUUTE! I won't say more for fear of sounding like a pedo LOL. I liked him, he a good balance between asshole Jiro and dumb Rikki.
Music/Show
The music was amaaaaazing. It's once of my few Toku collections that i could listen to constantly and never get tired of it. I love classical music and rock music, so the combination of both? HELL YES PLEASE. Also the music really FELT like the show. It felt very signature to Kiva, whereas a lot of Toku music just sounds like bubblegum J-pop or very common J-rock.
I liked the time travel lol, i'm a sucker for that ****. The show also contained a nice balance between dark and silly eps. I think that's necessary for a good toku. I like when stories are dark and series, but give me a breather in between please? So overall I liked the way the story was done. I felt like sometimes you could tell they cut some stuff for sake of time, which lead to plotholes. It was a story too long and too deep to be handled properly in a typical toku time restraint. I think it was amazing though.
So yeh overall, my favorite Kamen Rider series. It had flaws of course (ALL toku does!) but for its flaws, it definitely made up for it with compelling story and rich undertones.

Den-O was the first to actually get me into Kamen Rider Music, but I often find myself singing Kiva songs more, if not Decade. ESPECIALLY Takeda Kouhei's (Otoya's) "This Love Never Ends". It's one of my favorite Kamen Rider songs ever.
The thing I didn't like about Kiva was that it was a bit like a romantic Japanese drama with the toku action in it. One, I've never seen that before, so it was hard for me to follow.
I honestly like Seto Kouji more than anyone there because of how he talks (reminds me of a puppy). His face also gives me this impression: =3. That's just how his face looks like. A =3.

Wanna know what I hated? Where the hell is my Bashaa Fever? I'm stuck wondering the possibilities of what could happen. However I did like the series as a whole. Although I'm still a bit bothered about how Nago loved Maya and then found out it was Wataru's mother and just left it at that.

They never DID do Bassha Fever, did they?? D: I remember being kinda angry for never spotlighting any of the Fever attacks OTHER than freaking Wake Up Fever. So much for the whole roulette aspect of it... >:\
What I was bugged by was how Otoya and Maya conceived in such a short time span. I mean, I know it's a show and I'm supposed to suspend my belief, but the entire time they were busy fighting off the Fangire of the week or dealing with King. How do you have time to have bloody sex?? What, is Maya the Cursed Virgin Queen? Wataru's Fangire Jesus? *le sigh
That was my main iff about the series. Other than that, they dealt with the time travel well, the characterization and the switching from '08 to '85 (or was it '86?) was handled fluidly, and I just enjoyed the hell out of the cast!
