I'm really hard up on a job here, and I could really use some help here. I've never had trouble finding one before...But it seems like Sitel has blacklisted me from...hell everything, sense they fired me (>:()

Anyone know any good job sites that dont have a lot of spam to slog through, I've spent hours searching, only to never find anything?

This really depends on where you live and how badly you want a job. There is always opportunity around the corner, if you really want it. Here's how I go about finding a new job:

1) My top two favorite places to job search at, online, are: Monster.com and Craigslist.com
I start there. I usually find a few leads through there and send out emails and applications.

2) I send out applications to major retailers such as: Electronics stores, game stores, ?-marts, corner stores, Grocery stores, etc. These places have online job applications (usually) and are easy to apply to. So shoot out apps to as many as you can think of.

3) I wait no more than 2 weeks for a response from these applications and emails I have sent out. During the 2 weeks, I will find phone numbers for the places I have contacted and try to find out if my application has been looked at. Chances are that it has not. I try to encourage my potential employer that I really want the job and that he/she should at least see me for an interview if they can find the time.

4) After the 2 week period, if I have no nibbles or interviews lined up, I get desperate. I literally plot a course down a busy market street near me and visit every single store/business. Car Washes, Gas Stations, Car Mechanics, book stores, etc etc.

If I dont have a potential job lead after step 3, then step 4 is what always gets me a job.

If you need a job then you will find one. The problem with most people is that they are picky. They are beggars who want to be choosers. Well you can't beg and choose at the same time and be successful.

You might not find a job you really want, but at least you will have a job until you do find the right job.

don't just sit around

go everywhere, show your resume

apply online for jobs too

my friend did that, and he got called for 5 interviews, he went to all of them and got hired on 3, he then choose witch one was more convenient

I like you two...great info.

'cept I did basically apply everywhere, even places not hiring, it's just that my resume is so pathetic that most employers would seem to hire someone else...

question on the online app though, should you send a cover letter with it, or just the plain old resume? I took a career help/education class in college...& failed it somehow. ;-/ yeah...

You kneecap yourself if you limit yourself to applying online. Gotta make them cold calls!

Although their corporate bastards who you will hate within 2 days of working...
big chain retailers are always a good place to start.

Cover letters are usually only required for those big time office/corporate jobs. Every job fair, recruiters' reception, or regular walk into a place of business, the resume is usually all they will look for at the most.

Especially at this time of the year, the last month of the 4th business quarter aka holiday time. Those places are always looking for part-time workers to help out for the big time sales coming up for both Christmas and New Years........so those places are definitely in high demand for more bodies

I myself have been trying to find employment since May. It's been a tough journey (sometimes you gotta see it as a journey); all you can really do is keep applying yourself! At times, it'll seem like you're being ignored, discriminated, or not good enough. Those of us who have been doing our best to find a job just have to keep going out there!

Then there is another option...make your own money. Be your own boss by starting up a business. Yes, it'll take money to do that, but as long as you have friends, family, and other outside contacts (preferably professionals ones) then you should be fine. I've definitely been putting some thought into that when the First Lady of my Church suggested it. Whatever skills you may have, put them to the test.
