Jackie Chan's Hollywood comeback?

Jackie Chan is already heading in the wrong direction, in my eyes. They may do well, and they may even reinvigorate his fame. But doing these two new films is really making him even less of a respectable actor in Hollywood. After a string of really bad films in the early 2000s, are these really good choices?!

He's doing The Spy Next Door. A kiddie action film co-starring Billy Ray Cyrus and George Lopez. That's wondeful. Let's set him up with two washed up middle-aged has-beens to make a film. :redface2: This is out January 2010.

The Kung Fu Kid is his next, after this. It's a remake of The Karate Kid. He is playing Morita's role of the teacher. I think doing a remake of this would be dumb. But the only confidence I have in it, is that Will Smith is producing it. His son Jaden stars in it. But I didn't mind him in The Pursuit of Happyness. So hopefully if his charisma has grown, along with his acting skills since his horrible role in Day the Earth Stood Still, it could work for him and he'll mesh well with Chan. :thumbs:

What I admire about the picture above, is that they're using a technique shown in the Drunken Master. That was Jackie Chan's breakthrough film, and an amazing one at that!

Tell me what you guys think of this direction he's headin in? And how about that mustache? :laugh:

That alone just shows me I'm in for a disappointment. Jackie sucks with these kiddie-oriented projects.........he needs to find a new "Rush Hour-like" project to do, not this kiddie crap.

Even though it's a kids film I'll probably still end up watching it XD

And the karate Kid remake, I'll watch that and see how it goes.

I'll watch both, because I miss him in American films. He hasn't done a real non-voice role in the U.S. since The Forbidden Kingdom in early 2008. I wasn't particularly disappointed with the film, only with the fact that Jet Li and Jackie only had one real full-fledged fight.

Jackie's made it obvious that he doesn't care about making quality films for the US market because people here don't get what he's about anyway. He's become a walking stereotype and the only way he'll sell is by reducing his filmmaking style to a caricature of itself for brainless Hollywood mainstream moviegoers. He'll keep taking these projects that everybody hates every so often to bring in a little extra money and continue to use Hong Kong as his main playing stage just like he's always done.

I llike the most of Jackie Chan's Hollywood. I enjoyed Rush Hour series and Shanghai Noon/Knights, but the top movie is The Forbidden Kingdom. It's one of my favorite film since Shanghai Noon.

He'll keep taking these projects that everybody hates every so often to bring in a little extra money and continue to use Hong Kong as his main playing stage just like he's always done.

He's made that clear in the past. He's even admitted to using the money from American films he had little interest in, and using it to produce his own films in China. Smart man.

By the way, I think he may have somethin in The Kung Fu Kid. He might be a little more somber, more serious in that one. It could be a slightly new direction for him, in the U.S. He's used to goofball roles.

Update on pics for this movie. I just found these on Kung Fu Cinema. It looks like the kid learned some actual skill, unlike the original Karate Kid.
