Is the Toku industry in the Philippines getting weak?

And in Britain, Toku hardly exists, and both Anime and Power Rangers is losing out to Doctor Who (which I don't like) .

Ah, come on don't compare Doctor Who to soap operas, DR. Who is actually a damn good show, its just that its best days were in the 60's 70's and 80's. The original Doctor was a real old badass.

re: toku in philippines

well, toku is very present in heroTV... they are still airing reruns of ultraman cosmos [just recently started again], nexus, and max, plus gransazers, shaider [just recently started again] and masked rider ryuki...

gma is airing nexus again [their dub]. they are also airing this show called KING OF WARRIORS. at first i thought it was toku but it turned out to be a live action series where they battled with tops ala BEYBLADE.

and masked rider blade [tsp dub] is now being aired weekdays on TV5 on prmetime [now on its 2nd week]. you can also catch the week's episodes on a 5-episode block on saturdays after lunch. and unlike GMA's run, TV5's is UNEDITED. :buttrock:

i dont want to get your hopes up, but TV5 [formerly ABC5] seems to be pretty radical with their lineup and are open to new ideas. they've been buying a lot of new anime, and if anyone's crazy enough to bring super sentai back, it COULD be them, since they are not inclined to buy power rangers like ABS-CBN is.

finally, maskman fans were elated only to be disappointed when earlier this year, HeroTV announced they will be airing maskman. as it turns out, it wasnt the sentai... it is a kiddie cartoon of the same name. i dont know if they deliberately did this to tick ppl off

these networks are going to have to buy new shows soon and stop their endless reruns. here in the philippines, we are at the advent of the uploading craze. ppl are recording everything off tv, taking off the many commercials and uploading them on streaming video where ppl can watch them anytime they want. pretty soon, it's all going to be watchable online for free and these networks wont have any viewers if they just air the same thing over and over. lots of ppl dont like watching on GMA coz there are too many commercials. so they wait 'til someone uploads it on streaming and they can catch it there at their convenience...

i have been recording these tagalized toku shows and little by little from the reruns, am piecing them together. sooner or later, my episodes will be complete. i will then upload them somewhere where pinoy fans can watch them all they want. will keep you guys posted.

Well thats a start. I bet TV5's audience is mostly otakus, both Toku and Anime. that's a good start for TV5 to make pinoys being interested. if they keep doing it, ABS will likely air toku again and replace PR with Disney Channel shows.

actually, i think TV5's target audience are more on the younger side... in the morning before lunchtime, they air nothing but nickelodeon cartoons. then after lunch, it's more cartoons but with some kiddie anime... then come 6pm-8pm are the more "otaku friendly" anime which are more teen-oriented... 8pm-9pm are original local programs, then a hollywood movie, then a short news show...

almost all their shows target anyone other than "old" ppl who are used to the same old usual kind of shows that gma and abs usually dish out. and i WAS surprised that they got kr blade from tsp... that's why i think they just might be nuts enough to put super sentai back on air.

did you guys know that that in their first season [they're on their second season now], they made a 2008 continuation of BATANG X?

they also have BAIKINGU... which is actually VIKING shown in animax. the one on Tv5 has local hosts but the actual game footage is still from the japanese show. lots of new local shows do this... they put filipino hosts doing the intros, then the actual show is foreign.

they have an official website and it has a forum... you guys could start a thread to show them what you'd like to see. who knows, they might do something about it...

as for calling whatever this is an "industry"... if we dont want to consider zaido a toku, i dont think we can even say there is a toku industry in the philippines. for there to be an industry, you have to be making the product as well. toku is only bought and dubbed in the philippines, it isnt produced.

and i dont think there ever even was a boom...

in a nutshell...

it just started with tsp buying a bunch of shows and putting them on absscbn. then abscbn saw how much money tsp was making. when tsp's contract expired, abscbn didnt let them renew. tsp then took their shows and went to ibc13. abscbn then bought a few to profit for themselves. then abc5 bought a couple, and rpn9 bought a couple.

i guess it's just that toku fans saw a lot of shows being aired for a certain period of time. but that was it, really. it wasnt sustained.

then abscbn got the first power rangers and that practically ended it...

it's hard to market sentai over PR in a country where most of the viewers dont really want to watch asians on tv other than filipinos. filipino viewers like foreign shows with europeans and americans on them. it was only recently like 5 years ago that asian dramas became a hit in the philippines and we were suddenly seeing so many k-dramas, t-dramas, and j-dramas dubbed for local tv. despite having animax and herotv in a popular cable lineup, nickelodeon, disney and cartoon network are still more popular among kids here.

I just hope that TV5 will get KAMEN RIDER DRAGON KNIGHT next year.

Oh, the TV5 forums? Heck, the Anime section became nothing but a SPAMFEST. Puro request threads and anti-KR Blade threads ang nakikita ko. Even the mods have became SCHEMERS just like the NOOBs in those forums.

Naku...Madalas nakakaksakit lang ng ulo ang ganyan mga tao....And on the side note, that's the reason why 'yung mga matinong Philippine anime fans can't have nice things: Damned demanding people!>:(

Who could blame them from watching pr for a long time

in fact, while I watching a video on ixa sa youtube, may nagsabi sa likod ko na power r...

all right... okay. sorry my bad... looks like the tv5 forums was a bad idea. i should've known since it was an official forum of a tv station. i should've expected it to be "infected"

TV5's got a lot more new anime. which is why i was kinda surprised when they started showing old tsp titles like fushigi yuugi and kr blade. i really thought they were going to go all out with new anime coz that's what they started with. but at this point, there's no telling what else they bought from tsp. but i do know they bought a lot of anime on their own and still havent aired them.

i am so out of touch with dragon knight. if anyone would mind giving me a short update? when and where has this aired already in other countries?

and i know i am not the moderator but could we please speak english in here? just for the benefit of the non filipinos who also would like to join the thread? i dont mind speaking filipino in the filipino HJU users thread.

BTW, why would the forumers in the tv5 forum protest kr blade? i dont really want to go there and read stuff like that.

Sorry about that, my point is that before they show otome or geass r2, show some other toku for a while
