Is the Toku industry in the Philippines getting weak?

Well my Sempai, I agree with that, things are too local these days, I mean, it is possible to have it only when all are going to work out. I found that only Samurai X is in English (Studio 23) and Bakugan of Cartoon Network are in English. Please increase the ENGLISH DUBBED for that is more accurate than what happens now. I prefer the retro/old times TAGALOG DUB than the modern TAGDUBs, I mean, hear and you will be disgusted by the modern dubbers.

Say for example. YUYU HAKUSHO, that was well TAG dubbed than todays very animes ZOIDS/ GUNDAM SEED or SEED DESTINY/ ROCKMAN EXE./ etc.
As of these horrible scenarios I DEMAND THE ENGLISH DUBBED VERSION TO BE OUT ON ALL TV STATIONS THAT AIRS ANIME.

We have heard about ANIMAX but their English dubbing is horrible, I mean I call for all their animes to be aired with American Voice Actors and not by HONG KONG/ SINGAPOREAN DUBBERS who did the dub of many Chinese Martial Arts shows like The Once Upon a Time in China series. And please may they consider that ED versions are now being despised by many anime fans for reasons:

-DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO ELABORATE EXPRESSIONS
-THE VOICES ARE NOT FIT
-THEY ARE OUT OF THE TONE
-BAD CHOICE
-etc.

whatever these are, sure does not look good. I mean, shame on them for they are blinded by their egos of such shallow reasons.

I agree but some Tagalog-dubbed animes are also great like Yakitate Japan, School Rumble. I've watched the Tagalog dub of Code Geass, even some of the voices are not good (Vincent Gutierrez' Lelouch voice was not good at first but it became mature as the series progresses; his Joker-like laugh brought chills to my spine), it has a good script BTW.

there are anime that sound okay when tagalized but there are also anime that shouldnt be tagalized simply coz it just doesnt sound right when the dialog is in tagalog.

also, if the dub is going to borrow english words everytime they encounter a term that doesnt have a filipino word, especially those with english philo words/terms, it just sounds really awkward. one example is shakugan no shana. this kind of taglish lingo is suitable for anime that has a lot of tech in it like rockman.exe since computer terms in english are in our everyday spoken language.

yakitate japan was not consistent, some episodes were okay but in some, you could tell that the writer got lazy. i mean why call it "chinese dumplings" when it's known in the philippines as siomai? again, this is because the deadline is more important... if a writer who writes regularly for a certain series suddenly cant make the deadline, he'll pass on his assignment to anyone, even those who are unfamiliar with the show.

this is because ghost fighter was dubbed 10 years ago. a decade ago, the filipino language hasnt evolved for the worse. when text messaging arrived in the philippines, the filiipino language changed a lot... before, english words were only used when there wasnt a filipino word for something. back then, only kris aquino talked like that but everyone talks like that now...

now, even if there is a filipino word for something, ppl still use the english word. you hear extremely awkward dialog like "love na love ko ang iyong tantalizing eyes"... back when ghost fighter was dubbed, you hardly heard anything like that.

you can see the difference right now if you watch hero... watch SHAIDER or KNIGHT HUNTERS [it was dubbed by tsp almost 8 years ago] and watch one of the newer titles [preferably one owned by ABSCBN to see the huge difference] . you can see how much the language has changed - changed for the worse.

would you like an idea of how terrible most VA's sound if they dubbed in english? watch the evening news on QTV or "the world tonight" on ANC... listen to the field reporters deliver the news in english. these are the same reporters who are used to delivering their news reports in tagalog on the 6pm news. they deliver the same news in english on the 9-10pm news...

Speaking of which, this language we have now is no longer pure Tagalog and it doesn't fit anymore.

years ago, i used to own a network gaming shop in a low end mall in mandaluyong city... most of the kids and shoppers there belong to the C-D bracket - lower middle class.

anyway, one week, i had to man the place myself because my saleslady took her annual vacation... so to avoid getting bored, i decided to bring my VCR and show some anime... i turned one of the TV's around, made it face the display window and hooked up the VCR.

i brought several tapes. i had mostly english dubbed... transformers the movie, tekken the movie, mazinger z, voltes v, street fighter... i played those and i drew a decent crowd of kids. some were standing, some sat on the floor...

BUT

when i played my recordings of the tagalized GHOST FIGHTER... i had like the toguro tournament from the semis to the final battle, about 10 episodes... man. i filled up the whole corridor! i had little kids, big kids, adults, security guards, janitors... they were all watching it closely! and when the tape ran out, they asked me to rewind it and play it again!

when i closed shop at night, the janitors and security guards all came by, asking to borrow my tape of "eugene"... they all wanted to take turns.

and the next day, the kids asked for it again...

Aw that was so touching. I wished that I was there during that time. Anyways I hope that toku be propagated more that the usual and may KAMEN RIDER DRAGON KNIGHT strike in television in CARTOON NETWORK during the final quarter of this year. I can hardly draw my advent deck from my jacket's pocket anymore for this "PANGIGIGIL" ah! I mean cravings for the 2nd episode and onwards.

EDITIONS:

TAGALOG DUBBED ANIMES AND JAPANESE TOKUSATSUS are good to air provided that it is RETRO DUBBED (OLD DUBBERS AND WRITERS)
