Historic Tokusatsu Ratings

With Decade I got the feeling that a lot of people tuned in who normally wouldn't, in order to see the old suits again. In other words, in some ways it was kinda borrowing ratings from Kuuga, Agito, Amazon, etc.

Anyway, I updated the original post to add timeslot info, since whether a show's airing early in the morning, in the evening, or late at night can have a pretty big impact on the ratings ratings.

Also, I kinda want to know what's up with Ultra Q now, it sounds pretty interesting!

I think that's what it pretty much boils down too.

I remember in the original "Ratings" thread back when Decade was airing.......both the Kuuga 2 episode arc and the Agito 2 episode arc both were ranking in TV ratings of around 8-9 and 9-11 respectively. I'm not sure about the Amazon 2 episode arc though......most ppl stop keeping track b4 we reached that point.

But I will say, that Decade/Shinkenger crossover must have also played a role in the whole ratings thing.

The episode-by-episode ratings in Aoi Kurenai's current ratings thread bear this out. There's big bumps for stuff like the Black/RX arc and the Agito arc, then other arcs where the ratings drop down to Super Sentai-like levels.

I still shake my head at the Super-1 time slot change. Supposedly it's largely due to a production delay that meant the series started later than they wanted (which is why New Kamen Rider ends up the second-longest running Rider series ever) and the network schedulers made no attempt to compensate. I *think* that #24 would have even aired on the exact 10th anniversary of Kamen Rider, had it kept its old timeslot. That's when the replacement show, this thing, started anyway.

I've heard that the time change also supposedly factored into why the show took on that radical turn at #24 with the Junior Riders, Jindogma and all that fun stuff, though that might just be fan conspiracy. Sun Vulcan has also been cited as a reason for the tone shift.

This sounds like there might be a grain of truth to it, though we'd need to some quote from some production member to really confirm it. I've seen other, similar sorts of Japanese shows get totally overhauled as the result of a change in timeslots either mid-season or during a production lull. (I've also seen previously-successful shows die within 13 episodes in the new slot.)

Are the Decade re-runs doing better or worse then when they first aired? Or does someone keep track of such a thing? Not sure about how Sentai/Kamen Rider is re-run in Japan.
