HELP, MAKING DEN-O HELMET HELP!!!!

alright peeps, I'm making this den-o sword form helmet, right now i'm on the platform stage (its coming out better than expected), after that I have to add the big lens and middle gold part.

THERE IS ONE BIG PROBLEM

i don't know how to do the lenses, the big red see through lenses, I know I gotta use a mold, but after that I have no idea what to use to make them

I started like this, I used a balloon, a bit bigger than my head, and paper mache it. soon after I used hardening clay to make a round helmet with holes for the eyes. and right after it dried I used more clay to shape the helmet like the Platform helmet.

after this I was going to cut it in half from side to side, and use fiber glass to finish it up.

but I don't know what to do for the big red lenses

HElp

Unfortunately, it does not appear that anyone here on HJU knows how to "do the lenses" as you put it.

If no one here has any other suggestions, you'll probably have to do some lengthy/intensive Google searching to find the answers you seek.

From what I understand from watching about 3 cosplay videos, you need to get some plastic. Then you'll probably need to do some heating and mold the plastic into the shape you want. But I'm not sure about that. So yeah, do what JFC said. Search the interwebs for more info.

I have. this is why I'm asking, I only found one thing, but it does not say how to paint it so I can see through it. I can only do the shape.

You DO know that most paints are not designed to be "see-through"...don't you? :sly:

With what you're looking to make (a Den-O helmet), a thick paint job would be required to get that bright red colour on the eyes. There's "clear coat" paint that is used as a finisher for automobile/motorcycle paint jobs, however as it's name would suggest, it is a "clear" product, meaning that it does not have any colour at all. Unless you cut or drill little peep holes into the finished product, you will never be able to see through anything that has been fully painted.

There are a lot of approaches in making lenses. The guys who make Master Chief suits use motorcycle helmet visors, which help because his face is pretty much a motorcycle helmet visor. However, it is to my best knowledge that Den-O does not have a basic shape for his lenses.

I haven't done it, but I assume if you blew your own plastic that was transparent, and then paint translucent paint over it, it would be ideal. However, it won't be like on the show where you can see them and they can't see you. You're probably going to have to put a "one-way" mirror layer behind the glass, which, I'm sure you've seen on movies when they do the criminal interrogation scenes.

There are cosplay stores that sell lenses for goggles, some see through and others like sunglasses (where they can't see your eyes), though, I doubt you can find any big enough to make Den-O's eyes. You could probably find big goggle lenses, then just add a surrounding around the lenses so that it looks like the shape of Den-O's eyes.

Long post short, there's typically no ghetto way to make lenses. There really aren't any shortcuts. You are probably going to have to special order plastic and possibly one-way mirrors, and of course, you're going to need an expensive machine to cut them properly. I suggest you look for a cosplay forum that has worked on Kamen Rider helmets (I have yet to find one).
