It's been pushed to June 17, 2011. Same day as Thor's release. :shakefist

The latest news about GREEN LANTERN has been all regarding possible casting choices. Now we've got something new to talk about - a release date change.

Previously set for December 17, 2010, Warner Bros. has shifted the live action Green Lantern film's release to June 17, 2011 - the same day Marvel Studios' Thor is set to bow.

Which puts GREEN LANTERN up against THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA (premieres a month later) for the Summer 2011 box office gold medal.

Box Office Mojo posted the date change.

Guess that gives director Martin Campbell more time to find the right Hal Jordan perhaps? Not sure if this pushes the production start time of November 2009 back as well.

This makes Green Lantern one of WB's summer tent pole films of 2011, much better than the Christmas release it was given before, where superhero films tend to die a la The Spirit and Punisher (although it would have helped if those films were actually good).

As much as I don't like it being pushed, the clash between Green Lantern and Thor will be an epic one. Even bigger than The Dark Knight and Iron Man.

Pretty sure theres already a thread for this, anyway the Lantern's you'll see in this movie are: Alan Scott, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Sinestro, and Kilowog (it feels like I'm forgetting someone). The story borrows heavily from Emerald Dawn and sets itself up for sequels.

Script wise Thor is by far the superior story to Green Lantern in every single way.
