I usually have very minor cramps, thank goodness. I have a friend though, who was in such agonizing pain every time she was on her period that her doctor basically put her on permanent birth control. You know, without the week of placebos. The only reason she'd stop taking them would be if she ever wanted to get pregnant.

Birth control is a serious win when it comes to helping with periods and cramps. I love not having to guess when it's going to come too.

Too bad that switching insurance because my dad can't have me on his plan anymore meant that I'm paying over $100 for three months worth than a mere $5. :redface2: So stupid. I sadly had to stop using it in January because I just couldn't afford it anymore.

I found that my periods are a lot lighter though even if I'm not taking my pills and still arrive around the same time. I suppose it's just matter of whether I find myself in another committed relationship that I get back on it again. I really hated that first month of hormones going haywire. Thankfully, I vented my frustrations with Warcraft PvP :P

Same thing happened to me, both with having to go off them when I couldn't afford them anymore and my periods being MUCH more manageable even once I stopped. I've heard wives' tales that your period is supposed to get a lot lighter after your first pregnancy and the pill tricks your body into thinking that it's pregnant, so maybe there's a connection there?

I always found using heat pads along with eating right and painkills helps with cramps.

Also yessss. Mm, heating pad.

I've never been on the pill and I don't plan on it anytime soon @_@ I really have no need if I'm not sexually active and I can manage my periods just fine.. ._. One less expense, one less worry @_@ And to be honest, I don't know if I'd ever want to go on the pill for all the side effects it gives you and I don't wanna risk any of them (even if they're minor or rare.) In my case, might as well just use a condom.

Oh, for the love of... please tell me you don't actually believe anything in this pile of ignorant horseshit. Everything you posted is an obvious urban legend. I highly suggest you go talk to an actual gynecologist about the pill before you post anything else so utterly ridiculous.

I'll tell you this for your own protection, too: condoms are not recommended as a woman's sole form of birth control, due to the possibility of breakage. It is highly recommended that a woman using condoms either also be on the pill or have a form of emergency contraception on hand.

Latex condoms are only 100% effective at preventing spread of STDs.

Actually, if the STD is squamous - (spread by skin contact) like certain strains of HPV, it is transferrable even with condoms.

For mine, I use those adhesive heating pads, lots of chocolate, salt n vinegar chips, and Alleve for the cramps.

Yeah, I've had the cold sweat thing. Sucks. Hate my ovaries at this time of the month.

lol, since I seemed to have skipped my period in October, for once, I was actually glad when I got it today *whew* I don't even mind the minor cramps right now. I'd take a painkiller for it, but I haven't eaten anything yet, so I don't think that's a good idea :P

 I don't remember the last time I was excited to have my period. I know there's a pill that allows you to have only 4 period a year, but honestly, I think I'd miss it.

I know. I know. I'm weird.

:C Not necessarily.. I know of a handful of people who have suffered the "side effects" of them. Hey maybe you're right and it wasn't because of the pill but because of other stuff.. but I'll inform myself properly when the time is right.
Also.. if it's an urban myth then why did the thing you linked me to also state in it that:
"The possibility of side effects and serious health risks [...] accompanies the use of any hormonal contraceptive product, so patients are advised to use them in regular consultation with their health care providers" at the bottom after everything?
Weren't you trying to tell me that all of the side effects are untrue? @_@

Also what about the things that HAVE been proven true? Water retention, bloatedness, change in appetite, etc.. and if there's a big desclaimer that it's a problem with people with certain health backgrounds, http://contraception.about.com/od/hormonalcontraception/f/factors.htm then obviously it's SOME sort of concern, even if very little chance of risk.

And hell, I don't plan to have sex until I'm married- for personal reasons more than religious. But if something breaks (@_@ Which is weird because I totally wouldn't buy anything else but that renowned japanese import brand which has the highest durability for the thinnest amount of "material" but hey anything can happen, right?) and I end up pregnant I honestly couldn't be happy because that meant the time was right because that baby would've been a freaking miracle. Plus I'm not getting married until I'm in a wealthy state of finances so I COULD support a kid if anything were to ever happen like condom breakage.

:C Sorry that I don't want to trick my body into messing up it's own natural cycle. My period runs smoothly and I'm never in pain so it's really not that big of a deal.
If anything.. I wouldn't waste my money on something I don't need- regardless of if it's 100% safe or not.
