Dude, BigDog like complaining about pretty trivial things, it's useless to argue with him. Seriously, the guy said he doesn't want to watch Gavan the Movie simply because the CG Dol is ugly. BigDog, if you don't want to watch Gatchaman, then cool. Nobody give a **** if you don't. You sound like a kid who's throwing a tantrum because his mommy didn't buy the right ice cream flavor

Save it man. Bigdog's too much of a child to listen to any of us. After all, he's got his period on 24/7.

I believe they had two choises: a great action movie or a (speed racer-like) camp movie. Sinse they're going the action route, some astethics where sacrificed for practicallity. I see this movie as "a" Gatchaman Movie, a bit of an AU one. Like Man of Steel, you like it or you hate it.

Man Of Steel actually stayed true to more things than I was expecting it to. Even the different suit has many elements of classic one intact. Like I said though if there has to be a departure from it that's one I can live with.

The Gatchaman suits have the colors right but the helmets are so divorced from anything resembling source and not scalloping the capes is just a weird design choice. I mean why make a Gatchaman flick if you're going to be afraid of the avian theme? IMO a very fine line separates doing a modern version of an old thing and just slapping a known brand on whatever you're cranking out.

Valid point. My thinking is rather "stuff can get in the way with stunts". These suits are hella expensive, so I gather they are doing a lot of stuts themselves (maybe?).

I like the old suits better, but I like these suits as well. I am a Mecha nut after all, I can appriciate the industrial and mecha vibe off of them.

As properly treating the source: yeeeeeaaaah, they're not. Also valid point. Dropping the helmet AND the capes... Maybe the have a Jetman sort of thing going on?

Also: did you see the revamp anime they are going to make? Ungh... They're actually doing the Badging thing with that. That show looks nothing like the original...

You know, I can live with the new Gatchaman costumes. They're a reasonable update. But given what Nikkatsu's films tend to be like, I'm really nervous about Berg Katse being played by a woman.

The costumes veer a little too far from the original designs, in my opinion. If you'd showed me them before I knew a Gatchaman movie was being released, I probably wouldn't have recognized them as Gatachaman suits.

I like the new costumes overall, but I found it a bit disappointing that Jetman's helmets were in a way more "faithful" to the anime Gatchaman than the movie helmets, since they had the bird motif on them.

Character assassination. Give me your reasons why I wouldn't listen. In fact, I want to hear what you want to say about this.

But going how I am such a child? What inferior troglodytes resort to such blather that you actually have to bring a fellow fan down for no reaso nother than I have a contrary opinion to you?

Stop sounding like a self righteous sheep yourself. Just because I don't eat all the **** that has tokusatsu labeled on it doesn't mean anything.

Throwing a tantrum? No....I am just making an observation about how fans are so adamant on loving someone fucking with the source material or doing nothing with it and then complaining about that sort of thing afterwards.

I didn't see the Gavan film because it looked like a half-assed fanwank and I am glad it flopped. It should have re-introduced the character to a new audience and retold the story. I love the idea of Kenji Oba coming back ,but why not as a cameo? Why did fandom have to be such a huge part of the film rather than focusing on selling the idea.

Its not like it would be hard to do so, because look at Robocop and Iron Man. The former is pretty much a typical Metal Hero that melds Kikaider, Robotto Keiji AND Gavan , while the Iron Man trilogy managed to update the story to modern times and make it awesome. I mentioned Robocop because it shows that the Toei production crew had no excuse in how it executed the film ultimately.

The CG Dol is just at the tip of the iceberg why that film failed, and part of why I would not see that. Just take a look at Devilman, which was like that as well.

Stop being a condescending witch and actually see things with a critical eye. Not all things tokusatsu are golden and frankly ,its a wonder why the Japanese like foreign heroes more. At least American studios give a **** to actually not only make a good product, but to not be ashamed of its own source material. The Dark Knight series went straight back to the Kane comics while making it a present show, Man of Steel stuck close to the Siegel and Shuster version and anything Marvel is Marvel.

Gatchaman is clearly ashamed of being its namesake, just like how Godzilla was ashamed of its own. You can adjust things on the helmet and it would have a nice avian look alongside a sleek futuristic one, but to try to say I am "throwing a tantrum over an ice cream flavor" just because I disagree with you is more like character assassination than actual founded reasons.

I was skeptical of Kenshin, and it was amazing, and even Casshern while dry was good. I might see this film and it might disprove my beliefs I hold at present. But as it looks so far, I am doubtful if this will be good going by how past adaptations go for the grit and they fail at it or if it feels bereft of any soul or feeling.

It's called a rhetorical question and 2. You realize that just because a movie has a darker palette does not immediately make it relatable to Nolan. It's not like Begins, Dark Knight, and Rises are the only films the guy has made.

It's a popular trope to associate a director with a style of film. Also, Inception was very provocative and Man of Steel was fantastic.

Both Memento and The Prestige have plenty of color. 3. its not like this is the first movie to revamp an old character design. Pretty much every movie based on a pre-existing franchise does, to assume that they wouldn't is whats asinine. And if you wanna complain about ruining a characters design go talk to the G. I. Joe movies.

I still have to see those, so thanks. The revamps of these designs don't exactly look like their counterparts like TDK, Man of Steel, Lantern or any Marvel based franchise does. Though tbh, I never had an issue with X-Men's because I never read the comics since I was a kid and was into the cartoons. Seen the 90s version on Jetix later on and I wish the films did a mix.

I would never go for a literal transition, but a modern take of the same suit would be of course welcome. Its when you change the entire suit and it looks like something from Pacific Rim [Which looks cool ,so I'm not hating on that] , but for Gatchaman I need to see more, but not convinced.

I didn't mind the first GI Joe, but then again, I never was into the show that much. Transformers did it really good on its own merits.

Its very unlikely and quite frankly it doesn't really matter if they would look cooler or not, because thats not the direction they decided to go with for the suit designs. And its tremendously rude/ridiculous that you think you just instantly "know better" than an entire professional design team.

Just like it was rude for those critiquing the Last Airbender film or any other adaptation? Remember Akira and how everyone was foaming in the mouth over every change it made, or about Airbender's lack of sticking to the show?

Many of these "adaptations" don't have anyone on their team to critique them on their team to check these ideas and improve on them. If you don't set limits in a production and let them go wild, you can either create something really good or really horrible. And at times with most adaptations, it veers to very horrible.

Not saying this film will be like them, however I am skeptical of it.

I
'm not justifying anything I just think you're acting like an utter tool.
Also I love Spider-Man Noir!
I love Spider-Man Noir as well ,but would anyone like that to be the Spider-Man film? It doesn't speak Spider-Man anymore than an iguana Godzilla speaks to being Godzilla.

It has the story of it and it was a great shift in time, but its best as a comic.

What does that have to do with anything. And theres some good emo bands. That aside what the hell is your obsession neutering, that is not a word to describe what is happening here.

Neutering, or to make something not whole.

All I heard was screamo and it was horrible, so I'd like to be introduced to a few.

K, I'm gonna level with you for a tick. If you really knew anything about design, you wouldn't be flying off the handle like this. Your anger has nothing to do with the quality of the design. Your just mad cuz it doesn't look like what you want it to. That, once again has nothing to do with whether or not its well designed, which it is.
I don't anything about design? Sure I don't.....

The quality of the design doesn't matter if it doesn't try to give a few hints and homages towards the original work. It does honestly look cool , but personally not how I'd imagine a Gatchaman film. And no, the original anime helmets and suits wouldn't work either practical wise.

Hope the story makes up and delivers especially ShinkenRed is in here.

The designs are cohesive and quite frankly they spent a shitload of time and money making sure the suits could do anything they needed to, I can guarantee you that other than wanting to look "cool and futuristic" that any of the major changes made to the suits were done for the sake of practicality.

Up until the lack of non-Avian influences for the helmets I agree with you. The practicality of the bird eyes is how I would imagine the Yellow Ranger's eye sockets lighting up in the MMPR film, as kind of a flashlight that miners use. I love the helmet's visors ,and I know it is a nitpick, but it'll take some time to get used to the non avian influences in the helmet.

Also practicality would make sure there would be mouth-guards and some way to breathe in the jet, like real pilots wear daily. In fact, if practicality was an intention, why not use Air Pilot/Army helmets as an inspiration and build from there?

WWII has literally nothing to do with this. And neither does Pacific Rim.

It is relevant because I am discussing the aesthetics where much of these designs come from. Gatchaman was created by a crew that lived through the Second World War and like many things, it was exported into the design and aesthetics of anime like the Fleischer and Disney cartoons, particularly giant robots.

Take a look at every anime of that era, even including Kido Senshi Gundam. They were all influenced in some way by WWII and its impact. The way the mecha are designed reflects this idea of using animal-like aesthetics, which didn't exactly come up in comics prior to Post World War II manga where people who experienced it as children came of age and or joined the workforce to do art works. Western influences are strong in Japanese animation and bereft of them, the result would be highly different.

Speed Racer was american produced and doesn't count cuz its not a Japanese production. While Casshern was dark the only other Tatsunoko adaptation thats been done was Yatterman which was totally upbeat. Soooooooooo, you're wrong.

It does count because it as based on a Tatsunoko product, doesn't matter if it's American or Japanese. I have yet to see Yatterman.

Except no one gives a **** about the Wachowski Brothers anymore. And Michael Bay would've turned them into an all female crew of big tittied harpy ninjas. And none of us really care if you watch it or not, we can enjoy what will hopefully be a bitchin movie and you can be stubborn and whiney, have a blast.

Again with character assassination. So you cannot act civil in any form?
