Gatchaman Movie Announced (with ShinkenRed!)

Character assassination. Give me your reasons why I wouldn't listen. In fact, I want to hear what you want to say about this.

But going how I am such a child? What inferior troglodytes resort to such blather that you actually have to bring a fellow fan down for no reaso nother than I have a contrary opinion to you?

I don't care about your opinions. None of us do. In fact, none of us are trying to bring you down. We say so and so about you because you're posting comments and replies that nobody's even gonna give a **** about. I am just reminding people not to even be concerned about your comments and let you be. And why are you so concerned about what people think of you? Our opinions are our opinions alone. If you have a problem with that, it's your problem and your problem alone.

Aren't everyone's replies and comments meaningless to begin with ,considering our niche?

Not really concerned of what people think of me, just that maybe I expect too much from a discussion?

How does this give any motivation for me or anyone else to even discuss here if people resort to such things? Why can't we try to keep this as civil as possible as per the HJU standard as it has been for awhile?

Your opinions are yours alone, but inconsideration of others and the whole drama is why I left Rangerboard to begin with. I could frankly care less of what they are, but let's keep it to be one fandom and take pride in that , ok? :)

So how's Yatterman?

Dude that's kind of dickish...
It's funny because his username is 'Ore-sama', which in itself is an incredibly conceited way to address oneself, though it was probably unintentional.

I personally think this Gatchaman looks no different than the past anime/toku/manga adaptations we've gotten in the past few years. Uchuu Senkan Yamato, Gantz, etc. Looks to be in the same vein as that. (I almost mentioned RuroKen but that was actually pretty faithful to the comics and not a sci-fi).

I was actually really excited to see an updated Gatchaman costume that still had some of its birdlike characteristics which inspired Jetman's suits. It'd almost be a First version of the sentai suit. I personally think it looks great now but the complaints about the unfaithfulness are warranted.

I do think everyone's overreacting about it being grimdark like the Nolan films. It doesn't particularly Nolanesque at all. It looks like a pretty standard Japanese sci-fi film.

And Lana and Andy Wachowski are still relevant. The Matrix is still probably one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time.

Nice way trying to speak for everyone, dude.

No. No he doesn't. And yes, I know you where being sarcastic.

Big Dog makes a lot of valid points. I did love the Battleship Yamato 2199 movie and love the revamp show. It's gritty and has great drama. However, Gatcahaman wasn't that gritty. It did deal with adult themes, but was more lighthearted. I was this rollercoaster of emotional moments which would make you laugh, cry and think about the topics. It was very camp in it's execution, but it's a seventies show. So yeah, expectable.

I really can see where he comes from now. I've been pondering about this for a while now. The movie could be very enjoyable with lighter tones. Not "Nolan"-afy the crap out it. It looks like a really dark movie if you only look at the promo stuff and the trailers. Brooding heroes against their will. That doesn't seem right to him, and to be honest, he has a valid point. Matt also made a similar point with his responce of my Man of Steel comment.

There would be several design choices they could have made to INCLUDE the avian theme, brighten the suits with more colour and not try to make "cool super hero suits". In this way this is just another "superhero" movie that happens to be called "gatchaman".

I totally, fully and completely see Big Dog and Matt's point. I just stepped over to their side, I agree with them.

I don't understand why everyone's debating grimdark. Guys, this film is a Nikkatsu production. Nikkatsu's also responsible for stuff like Karate Robo Zaborgar and Yatterman. Otherwise, the company is most famous for making softcore porno. The studio's back catalog includes such NSFW classics as Office Lady Rope Slave, Pink Tush Girl, Young Breasts, and Zoom In: Rape Apartments. The chances of this film being truly grimdark are basically nil.

What you should be worried about is a love triangle involving one of the main Gatchaman dudes (or lady, or the kid) and Berg Katse, because Nikkatsu already pulled that **** in both of their 70s revivals. Just look at the similar plots in Karate Robo Zaborgar and Yatterman. And THAT is way more out of step with classic Gatchaman, honestly, than any amount of grim and gritty would be. (Though I admit a Berg Katse sex scene along the lines of the sex scene in Zaborgar would be... uh, pretty fucking memorable.)

Remember, Nikkatsu's usual stock in trade is effects that perfectly mimic a show's look, while the writing is purely satirical. Both Zaborgar and Yatterman are brutally incisive (maybe even mean-spirited) parodies of the original shows in question, that happen to look exactly like the originals. So, I dunno, maybe the fact that Nikkatsu actually developed new Gatchaman suits means they're going to play this one straight? Or maybe it'll be their usual stuff, and the movie will be about how Gatchaman is ridiculous and self-important. I dunno, but seriously, grimdark is not what you should be worried about.

*blink*

Wait, what?

Oh, crap... I... well... I kinda liked the Yatterman movie. Laughed my ass off... This one could turn out like that. So they f*ck it up by default because "that's what they do"? Now I HAVE to watch it!

Lol, that makes a lot of sense. I had no idea about how old school Yatterman looked... so yeah, seeing Kyoko Fukada in S&M in Yatterman's first teasers did make me think "WTH happened and Fukada's doing pinku now?"

I dunno that I'd say they "screw it up." Nikkatsu's prior two superhero 70s revivals just weren't reverent at all. I liked Zaborgar, but it's is an outright parody of the original series that mocks certain aspects of modern Japanese society. What I've seen of Zaborgar is kind of low rent, so I can understand taking that tack.

Yatterman is a farce that points out how mentally and emotionally damaged the villains would have to be in order to keep doing this **** over and over again. I didn't care for Yatterman, but it reminded me a bit much of the live-action Scooby-Doo films (in that it was far too pleased with itself, despite not being as entertaining as the original material).

I guess my point here is that if you're worried about this being a bad version of Gatchaman, don't worry about it being too dark or gritty. Worry about the entire storyline degenerating into a plot about who's going to **** Berg Katse, written as a commentary on the breakdown of traditional gender roles in Japanese society, and also a scathing parody of the modern surveillance state. That might even be a good movie, but it sure won't have anything to do with classic Gatchaman.

Well, I'm just going to watch it first off. In my opinion it's better to have seen said movie and then see if it's really that bad.

I still agree with Big Dog on the design choices. Yatterman proved they can do it different.
