I'll be real damn surprised if we don't get an extended version of that scene at the end of the upcoming movie.

Ditto. Dragon of the Blue Cry is supposed to be Kouga's final battle and I would imagine it probably takes place between Kouga leaving and returning to Kaoru. That last scene just seems like the perfect place the end their story, after two series and a couple of movies, it's what they really need and I don't think Amemiya would mess with that by giving them yet another threat they have to defeat after they think the major threats have been dealt with. (I mean, at least not after what seems like the perfect place to let them have their new life together)
