GARO: Makai Senki - Talk Up!

I just finished the first GARO series, and I'm in the process of watching the three movies that were made afterward. I really like the series, especially its cast of characters starting with Kouga, but if I have a complain it'd be the way they ended the series in regard to Kouga and Kaoru's relationship. So after he risked his life for her (and even shorten it according to Gonza), he marked their final farewell to each other by bowing to her? C'mon man! :redface2: I know that these two were attracted to each other, and they should've ended with something that is more than just a polite bow. After Kouga admitted to Kaoru that he needed her, it seemed like it was just a giant step backward by reverting Kouga back to his former, emotionless self.

I will agree that it would be nice to see them kiss at some point, but Japanese media seems to be a lot more reserved in terms of characters expressing physical affection from my experience (which is admittedly pretty limited). You were never really going to see Kouga sweep Kaoru up in his arms and kiss the dickens out of her, even if he was more emotional than he is. It's a limitation of the culture and medium that you just have to accept.

You were never really going to see Kouga sweep Kaoru up in his arms and kiss the dickens out of her, even if he was more emotional than he is. It's a limitation of the culture and medium that you just have to accept.

If Japanese are so against public display of affection, then how come in the episode "Fish Tank", the antagonist and his Horror girlfriend were kissing up a storm? And I'm not asking Kouga and Kaoru to french each other, but rather a tight embrace and/or a kiss on the forehead would've been miles better than the stiff, English upper class-esque bow that Kouga gave to Kaoru. It just seems like Kouga didn't really take a step forward in terms of developing his emotional attachment to someone else, but went back to his detached and stoic self in the end.

However, I'm going to start watching the movies as well as Makai Senki, and hopefully Kouga would do some developments then.

In Japanese media, that happens a lot. Bad character have rough sex while good character got the usual no hugging no kissing. Usually more of a morality trope. This mostly have to do with perception that first kiss is and sex is quite sacred in Japanese and by extension, asian culture. I'm from South East Asia, so I have some experience about this. Of course, a lot of works tries to deconstruct this, in real life, free sex are not something to be surprise about in asian countries.

[HIDE]Episode 16:It was freaking awesome. Kouga and Rei teaming up against Red Mask, first against his humanoid goryuus. Continuing with fighting Red Mask in human form. Culminating with Red Mask using his Makai robot-thing against Garo and Zero in their respective Madou Horses. Red Mask's face is finally shown when his mask is removed by Kouga, and yes, it's Leo. Next episode, Rekka appears, hope she won't disappoint me as much as Red Requiem. Also, from the synopsis for episode 17, it seems Kaoru will finally knows about the seal of destruction branded on Kouga[/HIDE]

I think it makes a hell of a lot of sense. It's who he is, he breaks down reading the book again makes sense. If he had swept her up and run off, wouldn't really fit his character. His whole thing is that externally he's cold, internally nicest guy in the world.

I am loving this series. It's not better than the first, like every other element of the media it's merely a continuation.

And if Jyakku isn't Reo...so HUGELY will I be surprised, I may die. If you listen beneath the vocal distortion, the vocalisation is very similar...it just, every other character introduced is either established, or has justification. And I don't see them making him some random unknown who hasn't been built up.

Since the heart of the first GARO series was really about the relationship between Kouga and Kaoru, and not just Makai Knights slaying Horrors, I wanted to see them not just developing their relationship further but also see some exterior changes that Kouga has undergo as a result of that relationship. His bow to Kaoru makes sense early in the series, when he was still this stoic Makai Knight who never let anyone enter his heart, but it doesn't when it's the final episode and after what he and Kaoru had went through together.

However, I've finished watching White Knight and it's nice to see these two actually hold hands, which should've come earlier but it's still a nice little progression for the two characters. I'm going to watch Red Requiem next and should I finish watching all the movies before I move on to Makai Senki, or it's not a prerequisite to do so?

I like Leo, and I hope that he isn't Jyaku - but I agree with you, I'm pretty sure he will be. Apart from the massive amounts of evidence pointing towards it, if they revealed Jyaku to be somebody we've never seen before, it would be a cop-out, and there's a limited number of characters it could be. If we narrow it down to the main cast, there's Kouga, Zero, Leo, Kaoru, the butler whose name escapes me, Dan and Jabi. It obviously can't be Kouga or Jabi, and it's very, very unlikely to be Kaoru, the butler, or Dan.

On the subject of the Kouga and Kaoru romance, I - might be alone when I say I'm not over-keen: Often when the writers try to push it, it comes off as oddly more like an older brother-younger sister relationship. Which is a shame, because I like both characters, and their interactions are still very interesting.

It´s better that you watch first Red Requiem and Kiba dark knight before Makai Senki...

Red Requiem is the weakest of all Garo related things... but it's not terrible.

Just very very boringly average.

Beast of the White Night, however, is amazing in every fashion.

Well...I stumbled upon a clip of the new garo episode RAW. I thought I skipped to the end to see the preview for the next episode, but apparently I went right before it and saw a major spoiler and saw under the "mask" of our villain.
