EVO 2011 - Talk Up

For those who aren't familiar, it's an annual fighting game tournament where top ranked players gather and play for the championship. For those who do know... yeah... =)

I kinda wanted to start one earlier, but yeah... after watching the SSFIV tournament. I was surprised that the expected top players never reached top 8... just goes to show that the bar of expectations keeps getting higher each year. Players like Mago and Daigo, whereas Daigo make the top 4, and I was surprised that Tokido made it up there over Mago.

The pleasant surprise of the whole thing just got me amped and excited to see who was gonna win, like Latif and Poongko. I don't know what happened to the "big names" of the game... it's like they were all caught off guard, regardless... I'm definitely looking forward to next years.

What did you guys think?

If I'm not mistaken this was Poongko's first Evo, I think the big reason why he lost is because he's not used to the hype. It looked like his eyes and ears wear shut tight from all the hype after he lost. Damn Koreans and their sound proof gaming boxes.

Anyway this was one of the best Evo's by far. Daigo doing MvC3 casuals with anyone, the Salty suite, Chris Hu karaoke, 13 and 8 year olds taking out major players, Mike Ross'es karma in full effect, Gootecks discovering he's the face of Team Fortress 2, Niitsuma being awesome and pretty much telling me anything I wanted to know about UMvC3 and TvC, Kayo Police in general, Ono being cool, the list goes on and on.

EDIT: Oh and Capcom giving everyone SSFIV:AE for free was pretty cool too.

I missed out this year, but I heard it was pretty damn amazing. My friend went though and also said it was the best EVO in recent history, he said he never witnessed anything like this tourney. I'm most likely to go to the next one, we should have an HJU group =P
