Dragonball GT

Dragonball GT was good. But wish they made it better.

1. Goku didn't turn into a kid again. Pilaf at last wishes to rule the world.

2. Baby didn't stay in Vegeta's body and fights as the real deal instead.

3. Broly comes back under Pilaf's control but free himself. Pan becomes a Super Saiyan and tries to free Broly from his psychopathic life. Broly wakes up and realizes all the things he's done and commits suicide in space. The dragonballs wish Broly back to life as a different person and no longer the Legendary Super Saiyan.

4. Bardock returns as a Super Saiyan meeting his children and son.

5. Adult Gotenks comes. The Z Fighters are reunited to fight the Shadow Dragons. Some wear their old clothes (Tien, Yamcha, Krillin, Gohan and Vegeta) except Goku.

6. Krillin didn't die. And Piccolo didn't have to go to Hades.

Why the hell would Bardock come back? And Broly is non-canon so he wouldn't have come back anyway.

Anyway, no. GT was awful for me. It started out just okay, but it got worse as it went on.

What's funnier is that when funimation was releasing episodes, they started with the Baby saga and then dubbed the episodes previous to that as 'lost episodes'

Couldn't anyone make a better Dragonball series after Z?

Well if you want to get technical, there are rumors that Akira Toriyama didn't even want to create GT.

Tvtropes.org said:
According to the story, the creator of the comic, Akira Toriyama, wanted to stop at several points (the final arc of Dragonball, then the Freeza arc of DBZ), but meddling executives wanted to take advantage of its extraordinary success worldwide and told him to keep going. He couldn't end it at the Cell saga, and thus had to do the Buu saga. And because of Goku's massive popularity in Japan, Toriyama never once got to do what he had wanted to do when starting DBZ: pass the main hero mantle from Goku to Gohan.

Eventually he did leave, and GT happened without his input...mostly. The GT-exclusive character Gill actually was from one of Toriyama's designs and he did character designs for all of the characters at beginning of GT, even the mustached Vegeta

The distinction of "Z" was supposed to mean "the end of the (current) story", and yet the show just kept being forced to keep going with more content. The fact that GT was an anime series only, with no source manga to adapt from, probably is a telling sign.

Likely the best your going to get as "a better Dragonball series after Z" is Dragonball Kai, even if it is a distilled and updated re-release of Z.

I saw GT when it originally aired on TV in America for the first time. This was before I knew about how little Akira was involved or how much the initial dub changed things. Of course, after learning that stuff, it does make a lot of sense...

Needless to say, what I saw from the initial run of the show... Everything was fine for me, I was on board for everything. But the ending to the show just flat out sucked out loud. Goku was turned into a child, and by the end of it, he decides to stay that way. What the heck, man?! After all the stuff Goku has gone through in his life, why WOULDN'T he want a normal ending? Who wouldn't want to grow old with their wife and watch their children and grandchildren grow up? Why out live everyone you ever knew and loved? So you can keep watch over the world? Bulls***!

Now obviously I need to go back and see this show as it was meant to be seen, and maybe the real ending is slightly different than what was aired. But seeing as how many people have said how terrible GT is, should I really waste my time?

As an anime fan, I say check it out and decide for yourself

As a fan of Dragonball, I say, no. It sucks. You'll just probably be disappointed and only care about the animation being pretty.

Having bought the Complete Series set, i feel compelled to defend GT.
Now i am a Big Dragonball fan and i really enjoyed it.

The first arc was very much Dragonball, with the sheer Adventure of it all the driving force. It work, despite some rather poorly written episodes.

The Second arc started the shift to a more Z style show, where the action takes precedent. YMMV if this was for the better, but i think it was.

The Super 17 Saga was far better than the first 2 arcs, maybe do in part to mass cameo's of past bad guys. It's entertaining to see all the baddies from the Red Ribbon Army to Babidi's goon's getting owned in short order.

The final arc showed that wishes on the Dragonballs, even if well intentioned, has it's repercussions. The finale's was (IMO) the perfect cap on this very long running Series.

But, as always, YMMV.
