Dragonball Evolution Wasnt THAT Bad

If anything, Dragonball Evolution suffered due to being pushed through production as fast as the sutudio could to avoid the WGA Strike.

That and Fox's decision to not delay it because of the writers strike. Seriously **** writers aren't allowed in the WGA for a reason.

Faithful adaptation of Dragon Ball can not work in live action in any way, it'd just be way too cheesy looking.

The ****? Are you seriously implying there is no such thing as a good movie that's cheesy and campy? I can name at least five cheesy and campy movies that are great movies. Some of which are even adaptions. Dragonball is still meant for younger audiences in case you didn't notice.

Yes Speed Racer was great but it was not that faithful to the source material either, it also went for an over the top style not to mention the much larger budget.

Speed Racer was very faithful to the source, it just wasn't identical to the source. Being faithful and being a direct adaption are two complete different things but you seem to think they're the same or similar. The original Speed Racer was campy like the movie, it was over the top like the movie (just not in visuals), it's plot was pretty childishly stupid like the movie, and it had that adrenaline the movie had. When was the last time you watched the original series?

I just can't bring myself to criticize a movie with John Goodman saying "More like NON-ja's!"

Not implying that, I enjoy cheesy and campy movies, maybe Dragon Ball could have worked that way but what fans wanted was a serious adaptation of the source material and that can not be done in live action without it just being cheesy.

Last time I saw it was as a kid but thats irrelevant, the movie was really nothing like the show though. It was faithful in the sense that the "spirit" of the show was in it as you mention but that is not a faithful adaptation. A faithful adaptation wouldn't have worked, it would have been boring. The Wachowski's went for an over the top style which worked great for it and blended it with the franchise. It was great but a faithful adaptation it was not and I don't think anyone wanted a faithful adaptation. The show was campy but not that over the top.

When watching animation your suspension of disbelief is more flexible and allows you to take it more seriously something that would not happen in live action were expectations are different.

Then are you saying that Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Narnia didn't work? Because from what I see in the sales, those movies are going wonderfully  What I mean is, these movies have a lot of mystical and magical elements, yet poeple go to see them and they continue to rake in sale (well, Harry Potter does cause it's still on-going). Also, they are supposed to be targeting this to the fan base while trying to target it to a bigger audience. However, just by having the NAME "Dragonball" will bring in certain people and alienate other people. So there really is no reason why they couldn't have tried to adapt it BETTER and while things would have been gone (you cannot adapt EVERYTHING) it could still seem like Dragonball. Hell, if the name of the movie and characters was changed, it would not even be Dragonball :P

Those examples are entirely different, its easier to "believe" in a world with magic especially in a fantasy world like LotRs. And no they are targeting the general audience, the fans they know they already have them.
