Dr. Who - Talk Up!

The Christmas Invasion and CIN special are both up in the Doctor Who newsgroup. There are 2 versions of the Christmas Invasion, one that's 1.5gbs and a much smaller 1.

"The Girl In The Fireplace" just aired. The episode is written by Steven Moffet, the person behind the the award winning "Empty Child/The Doctor Dances", and even though this episode was'nt a two parter, it still ranks as one of the best Who storylines, and the strongest episode of the season next to "Tooth and Claw"

Some really hilarious scenes (The Doctor "drunk"), thrilling set peices (The Doctor, a horse, a window, a ballroom, add all of 'em together), and bittersweet endings occur in this episode, download with quick haste.

So, I got really desperate to see what is going to be on next weeks episode...and I am not disappointed in seeing the return of the Cybermen!

Doctor Who has won three BAFTA awards, one for best drama, one for best audience, and one for best writer (Russel T Davis finally beating Stephen Moffet for all the accolades "The Empty Child" got from other awards)

"Rise Of the Cybermen" has aired in the UK

It was a pretty slow paced, and more human based storyline revolving around Rose finding her father is still alive, is enourmously succesful, and that he's still married to Jackie, but is dismayed later to find there seperating just as they did in her world. Mickey was also given the spotlight, and was given more background on his life. (His Grandmother dying etc, and his being treated like a "spare part"), and on a more hilarious note, his alternate Earth counterpart is a tough, hardened resistance fighter called "Ricky".

I loved the parts involving the Cybermen's creation, the experiments and screaming being drowned out by "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"

Cliffhnager was classic Doctor Who, The Doctor, Rose, both Mickey and Ricky, and Pete surrounded by party crashing Cybermen

"The Age Of Steel", the conclusion of the Cyber-Men two-parter, has aired

This was probably one of the strongest episodes of the series, the female Cybermen being briefly made aware of what they had become, one of them requesting her fiance (this was pretty morbid stuff here) not see her without realizing she nor The Doctor are anywhere near them. The other sad note was that Alternate Earth Jackie, Rose's mother, was "upgraded" into a Cyberman, proving the term is a gender once and for all. The Doctor eventually manages to release a signal that frees the Cybermen from their emotional inhbitators, with the aid of an encouraged and motivated Mickey, and they also become aware of what they are, and go insane, destroying the factories. Their creator, reborn as The Cyber-Controller, attempts to kill The Doctor and the group when they attempt to escape, but dies in a great little homage to Die Hard.

Afterwards, Rose tells her father that she is his daughter in her own universe, Pete decides to continue the fight against the wakening VCyberman forces across the globe (it was'nt restricted to London), and Mickey elects to stay behind to lead the reistance, taking the place of his alternate world double who was killed earlier. The Doctor cautions him once the TARDIS returns through the time rift, he must seal it, and there can be no going back. Mickey understands and says farewell to The Doctor and a tearful Rose.

Next Week: For the States, the beggining of the two part season finale "Bad Wolf", and for the UK, an episode set during the coronation of Queen Elizabeth set in the 1950's.

[hide]WHAT!? Mickey does that!? I'm actually shocked that he would choose to remain behind in an alternative universe rather then return to his own with Rose.

Unless the writers plan on bringing the Time Lords back (whom the Doctor said were the only ones able to travel between dimensions; and it's possible since they brought the Darleks back) ... Poor Mickey! I'm shocked.[/hide]

I haven't seen the epiosde yet but after watching Rise of the Cybermen I had a feeling he stay behind for one reason or another
