Donald Glover wants to be Spider-Man

My main thing about minority characters is that I absolutely HATE when their race comes into play AS their character. I don't want a Black Panther movie personally... and I don't want minority characters written like that anymore. As I've said before, I have waaaay more in common with Peter Parker than Luke Cage and I'd like Hollywood to start reflecting that. That it should be about the character versus the character's race.

I think Peter Parker's character is more iconic than his race. And a minority Peter Parker who was NOT written like some stereotype of a minority would be pretty hugely refreshing for me.

The black panthers race is directly tied to his character, so that example IMO is not a good one for making your point.

And why change a character like Peter Parker's race? Why not create a new character?

I wouldn't mind a new character either. I just don't think Peter Parker being white is tied to the character. For me it isn't about trying to "take away" Parker being white so much as enforcing that characters should be about character and not their race.

:nono:

You know race may not be important, but appearance is and spiderman is white, and as a black man myself I refuse to accept Donald Glover as spider man, or any black person as spiderman.

I actually don't know if Donald Glover is a good actor or not, so I'm mainly for being okay with shaking up Peter's race. He above a whole lot of characters is soooo much about the character over race that it would be awesome to have a minority character that was written only as a character and not "the racial character."

I'm actually fine with the reboot.

Or how about the film franchise just be left alone at three films. All Marvel is trying to do is squeeze more money out of a bankable name. There is no reason, whether it be creatively or story-wise, to reboot this character.

It's just so weird to me that nobody else seems to think that three films was enough! The sheer fact that Spider-Man 1 single-handedly started the superhero movie craze is enough of an impact on society. What's wrong with leaving it there and moving on to something else instead of disrespecting the character further and using the name as a bank-in :nono: Just because Spiderman 3 sucked, doesn't mean that we need to have a new retelling of the same story that was just released 8 years ago!

It's awkward and weird to have something like that, when back in the day we didn't get a reboot for 15 years :sly:

The reboot for Spider-Man makes no sense. You have three films, all of which bank a *lot* of money and one out of three being bad(subjective to arguments) is pretty damn good. Unlike, say, The Hulk movies, or the reboot of Thomas Jane's Punisher(which I personally loved) to Punisher: War Zone.

All it feels like personally is Sony wanting to do a reboot to make Spider-Man more likable to the Twilight fans. You won't be able to get a better Norman than Willem Dafoe.
