Doctor Who -Talk Up! (General Discussion)

I myself started Doctor Who with Matt, and went backwards to Tennant and Eccleston(and the classic series). So I think it's fine to start with the new guy or with series 5 with Matt.

Good idea and a bad idea. Good idea if you already know the meat and potatoes of the story bad if you don't

Yeah, I've watched Eccleston's and Tennant's run, but I got really bored with the show. Since it's mostly stand-alone episodes, it's tough for me to watch more than 1 episode a day, I think i'll enjoy the show more if I watch 1 episode a week

I love that this new Doctor is older, I think once it's written well people will accept him just like Tennant and Smith. I'm not a big fan of Doctor Who, but I plan on using the 12th Doctor as jumping on point

I also appreciate that they went older, it will hopefully mean they will focus less on ship tease between 12th and his companion that we've seen with the last few.

I hear rumors Clara is leaving around the time Matt Smith does. That is a bit of a shame, I always liked it when Doctors shared companions to see how the relationship changed with the new incarnation compared to the old one.

Most likely you will. However watching the Classic series can work if you only watch it one episode a week since that's how the serials were made back in the day.

I always kind of figured that if mostly episodic series were not your thing, then Doctor Who is likely not the best series to get into.

This is total bull. Jenna Coleman is not leaving, in fact there's rumours that Clara will be getting a love interest in the form of a new male companion.

Well this was interesting, looks like somebody was trying to do a Show about the Eighth Doctor before the TV movie [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5d5pQM7IGo"]The Other Eighth Doctor? - Doctor Who - YouTube[/ame]

I started watching Dr. Who a few months ago, and managed to marathon the whole new series in about 2 weeks. I didn't do much else during those two weeks. :P

I'm finding the original series a lot harder to watch. Takes me a couple of weeks to psych myself up into finishing a serial of 5 episodes, much less entire seasons. I'm only watching the ones on Netflix right now, might go back and try to find more later, though.

Yeah I get what you are saying. One day I was watching Series 1 with Eccleston and I had just finished Aliens of London(ep 4). I had an 8 hour window in which to get some sleep for work, then preceded to finish the series in full one right after another and went to work that night with no sleep. So yeah, I get the obsessiveness lol. As far as the Classic Series goes, I found I enjoy more on a peace meal basis with a story here or there as opposed to going straight from the beginning. I'd recommend Tomb of the Cyberman, Genesis of the Daleks, Remembrance of the Daleks, and The Caves of Androzanni as good stories by themselves...
