SOAP MAN WILL SAVE EVERYONE!

I'm sure he would have if the image wasn't hotlinked.
OOOOOH! BURN! :P

I always ask my mom and my aunt what Todd Manning is up to. He's a wonderful bastard and will be sorely missed, when OLTL is kaput in Jan. 2012.

He really started the tradition of me getting behind the agenda of singular characters on shows. It's harder to do now, since I'm watching mostly toku and the characters I'm rooting for are surrounded by other excellent characters. Otoya is a good example. I always wanted him to get exactly what he wanted, no matter what it took, but I love almost everyone else on Kiva. Same with Hajime.

Ankh is as close to the Todd Manning 'ideal' as I've ever come. He's pretty much sole reason I'm still watching OOO. Date is kinda cool, but otherwise.... Same for OLTL. Outside of Todd, it's just another lame soap.

It was my understanding they were scrambling to get his original portrayer back. Guess they figured he could single-handedly save the soap? They actually signed Roger Howarth and were writing his return into the canvas, but all that started almost a month ago, BEFORE the announcement of cancellation. No idea how the cancellation will affect things.

I know of OOO, but that's about it. But I know about Todd Manning really well. It always boggled my mind they essentially kept a serial rapist around just because he was portrayed by a good actor. Good actor, yes, but, again, playing a serial rapist. Actually he only successfully raped one woman but tried to rape two more, one of which gave him the scar he wore on his face for years. Prison seemed to reform his rapist ways, but he was still a villain in other ways. Tried to kill several people and succeeded at least once. Still had no problem bullying people weaker than him (namely women), but for guys his own size or bigger he wouldn't say much. His only redeeming qualities seem to be his love for his sister and children, and he tends to say sarcastic things. Other than that I always wondered why someone didn't put a bullet in him ages so. Well actually they have but he always survives.

So, you're saying Ankh is like that?

I'm saying I really don't have a problem with whatever Ankh does and he makes the show for me. And yes, I'm used to having people bring up the rape(s).

Tea was actually together with him last I heard? Not saying that justifies anything, just interesting to note.

I guess my point is if Todd wasn't such a coward but still villainous I could understand. But, he is. So when you say Ankh's like Todd, I think of everything that makes Todd Todd, the rape, the bullying, the cowardice. So you're saying the aspect of Todd only looking out for himself is the trait you like in Ankh? That I can understand I suppose.

Yeah. They got married I think last year. Tea had a secret baby (conceived when she and Todd were stranded on an island) that they rapid-aged to about 16 and that facilitated all this. The child, Dani, her adopted father's evil brother gave Tea a drug that made it seem like she was dying so that finally made Todd admit she was the only woman for him, yadda yadda, they got married at the house.

What's interesting, though, is that either a week or two ago, Todd started getting mysterious calls on his cell phone, something about telling him to "hurry up." He said he would, then when he hung up he intimated to Tea he wanted JUST those two to run away. Before it could happen, an unknown sharpshooter shot him. It put him in a coma, which is where he is now. We don't even see him, he's just mentioned.

Its being speculated that the person who shot him was the real Todd Manning, facilitating Roger Howarth's return to OLTL in a month or so. The idea was always to have both actors on the show yet somehow keep Roger as the real Todd. This opens up a huge can of worms, but...if its true, I'm curious as to how OLTL explains all of it.

Oh yeah, Tea's never before seen nor mentioned older brother Tomas is in town and its speculating he's been working with Real Todd in some capacity.

Yeah, it's mostly the looking out for his own interests angle. I'm obviously not endorsing or supporting rape as a means to get what one wants in that very specific realm. That'd be ludicrous.

I remember a long time ago when I actually got to see him in action (as opposed to just hearing about it) finding lots of little charming moments about him and I imagine those colored my perception quite a bit.

I've been known to answer the phone with 'Friend or Foe' a time or two, because of him.

I'm well aware he's not a role-model anyone should strive to emulate. And, I'm not trying to make anyone like him who doesn't already. Not trying to change opinions, because given the circumstances, people probably never change their initial stance on him. I imagine he's very "love him or hate him." I can completely understand that.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how they wrap up his character and the show in general, especially if that plan stays in place.

Well I didn't mean to imply that you were. If it came off that way I apologize. I was trying to get you to realize the magnitude of saying "I like him cause he's like Todd" because Todd is a myriad of (mostly evil and disgusting) things. Nothing more nothing less. But I completely understand what you mean now, like I said in my previous post.

Charm goes a long way in soaps. Maybe in acting in general, I don't know. But I know a lot of characters I'd want gone/dead if not for the actor portraying them. The original Carly on General Hospital Sarah Brown (she was in VR Troopers!) fits this bill. Billy Warlock's AJ from General Hospital, too. I guess that's Todd. I can't ever forget what he is, but Roger Howarth did such a good job playing him, with his antics and outrageous schemes and sarcasm that you somehow want to see...more.

Trevor St. John is a good actor, but he doesn't have that same "charm" as Roger Howarth. So seeing him do Todd-like things comes off like, well, you don't love to hate him, you just hate him.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how they wrap up his character and the show in general, especially if that plan stays in place.

Since both soaps are finite now, they'll have no choice but to wrap things up, so we'll never see how two Todd could have existed at the same time long term. Its a shame. All My Children, it's been bad for a while, cancellation is like putting it out of its misery, but OLTL has been pretty interesting. General Hospital...my mind boggles as to how that show continues to dodge the cancellation bullet.
