Disney cancels top two soap operas!

Man, my mom was shocked when she heard this. She's been watching One life to live and GH since before I was born. And getting home from school at 2-3pm back in my elementary/high school days, wiith only 1 TV in the house and no internet back then, I had no choice but to watch it while i wait for my 4pm cartoon/PR block to start. And to be honest, I got into it for a few years. Moreso GH, but yeh, I started knowning who all the characters were, who did what to whom, who did whom, who supposedly "died" by flying off a cliff but came back to life cuz no one found a body, etc. hahaha. Ahhh good times. Sucks to hear that, mostly for my mom who's at home around that time and still watches the shows. But oh well, life does go on. It is just a show after all.

I don't get it. What does Disney have to do with this? I know ABC and Disney is sort of one company, but I doubt the actual Disney part had anything to do with this.

I agree with what a previous poster said. I doubt Disney has very much, if anything, to do with these two long running soaps getting cancled. Disney is just the parent company of ABC.

Just because Disney owns ABC it doesn't mean they have complete control over what gets aired and what gets canceled, or a say in it for that matter. Look at marvel, they're own by Disney but they still have control over their books and they decide what get canceled, mainly due to lack of sales. It could be ratings were just down for both shows and didn't look like they were going to pick back up any time soon so the head of what ever group he was working with decided to pull the plug, not to mention that running a five days a week show without any rerun or hiatus isn't all that cost effective now a days. At least they giving them time to wrap up their story lines and didn't just yank them off the air immediately.

My reaction when I saw you agreed with me:

Old people and housewives throughout the country will be devastated.

You know damn well that all hell is going to break lose because of this.

Indeed. Not only that, but there are posters/OLTL & AMC fans on MSN, for example, that are very angry about hearing this news & are talking about threatening to boycott ABC as a whole here. because they're being replaced with another cooking show & a show about health called "The Chew" & "The Revolution." Like we really need anymore of that (or need anymore reality shows, talk shows or "Judge" shows) when there is already so much shows about those, especially on the Food Network & the Discovery Health channels.

ABC seriously needs to reconsider this, because they will lose millions of viewers to other networks such as CBS & NBC.

LOL

People still watch Soap Opera's?

Yes, they do. These Soap Operas have been the best thing to happen in daytime afternoons. These Soap Operas, for example (see below), have been on TV for the longest time, even much longer than talk shows such as Jerry Springer & Oprah.

Guiding Light - June 30, 1952 to September 18, 2009 (57 & a quarter years).
As The World Turns - April 2, 1956 to September 17, 2010 (54 years & 5 months).
All My Children - January 5, 1970 to September ??, 2011 (41 years & 8 months).
One Life To Live - July 15, 1968 to January ??, 2012 (43 & a half years).
The Young & The Restless - March 26, 1973 to Present (now 38 years).
Another World - May 4, 1964 to June 25, 1999 (35 years & 1 month).
Days of Our Lives - November 8, 1965 to Present (now 46 years).
The Bold & The Beautiful - March 23, 1987 to Present (now 24 years).

(I've taken them from Wikipedia, just in case you're wondering.)

There are now only four of them left standing, & they are Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Young & The Restless, & The Bold & The Beautiful!

I thought housewives spent all day being unfaithful to their husbands and indulging their alcoholism? As long as The View is still on I think we'll be able to avoid total revolt.

People still watch Soap Opera's?

Have you seen how big our wrestling thread is? LOTS of people watch soap operas. And to those who would say wrestling shows like TNA & WWF are not soap operas, you need to look again. They totally are!
