[GAME] CthulhuTech: The Eldritch Society -- Episode 1

Stealth’s Easy Test: SUCCESS.

Stealth spotted three doors, two on his right, one on his left. The right one closest to him seemed to be a supply closet. The further one was unlabelled, and had an odd, ring-shaped keyhole. The one on his left was twelve feet ahead and painted a different colour. There was a sign reading, ‘STAFF ONLY,’ fixed to it.

"Ghost? Stealth? What's going on down there?" Inaba radioed. She couldn't hear the guard's radios. She hadn't even thought about it, although if she could have heard them she would have started scanning channels until she found them. "Speak to me, people."

As she tried to resume contact with her team, she attempted to call up a feed from the security centre to find out what was going on there, looking for any signs that their situation was being investigated.

[hidden]Sorry, Scotty, I don't have my sheet or anything, could you roll the appropriate check for me please?[/hidden]

All right, let’s roll Inaba’s Computer (Adept: 3, with a +1 bonus for hacking) skill and use her Intellect (10) attribute as the base.

7, 6, 8, 9.

Pretty much any of the three ways you can determine the result will produce a result higher than the Test level, so let’s assume thusly that

Inaba’s Average Test: SUCCESS.

Her current set of feeds minimised, replaced by a new set. She could see Ghost and Stealth, the latter holding the two unconscious men over his shoulders and looking around for a place to stow them. The hallway passed straight through an intersection before it branched off in two directions at the end. She could see two guards talking in the further one, out of eyeshot of the infiltrators, and a third female guard was in the hall adjacent to the intersection with her comm out. She was the one most likely to be attempting to rouse the man Ghost had just knocked cold. Her face registered concern and her free hand was edging towards her weapon. A little further away from the others was a suited man, emerging from a door at the top of a staircase. He had his gun out and his expression was grim.

“Ssh, I can’t think!†He uttered rather loudly in his mind towards Inaba. The situation had grown interesting, three doors, two bodies, two Tagers and one rather loud radio. He scanned the doors and immediately fixated on the one with the peculiar shaped keyhole. He moved over to it quietly, and initiated his phasing ability.

As he moved through the door he felt strangely liberated, but the adrenaline in his system kept him from focusing on anything but the task at hand. As soon as Ghost was through, he became whole again and unlocked the door quickly, motioning for Stealth to follow his lead. Ghost left the door open ajar so his teammate could enter behind him, and quietly replaced himself to the left side of the wall. He disengaged his symbiot and fingered the radio intently, his mind racing with what he was going to say. He clicked the button and talked with resolve, hoping his confidence would help with the situation.

“This is Security 4. Patrol route is clear, I uh, was in the bathroom when you buzzed me.â€

Fumbling about stealth opened the door to the supply closet and gently placed the two guards in the small supply room. As a precaution the Tager broke the inner door handle hopeful that such an action would keep the guard out of the scenario for a bit longer as he closed the door.

Free to walk unseen once again, stealth vanished from sight as he headed off to briefly investigate the staff only room. Varna briefly paused as he noticed ghost’s deception, though no one would notice the Tager went pale as he continued on unsure if they would remain hidden for much longer.

Ghost’s Challenging Test: FAILURE.

There was a pause on the other end of the line. Finally, after a tense moment, the voice asked, “Is that right…by the way, security 4, whatever happened to your Welsh accent?”

Behind Ghost was a grated, metal staircase that led down to what seemed to be a nearly cylindrical chamber with green-tiled walls, like the underground train tunnels of decades past. A gentle pulsing, like a heartbeat, reverberated all around him, and there was an oppressive heat emanating from the further darkness, accentuated by occasional mechanical grinding and crunching, possibly from heavy machinery.

On the opposite side of the hall, Stealth used one of the fallen guard’s keys to open his door, and beyond it was an identical staircase, heading downwards to a basement level. He could detect a hum of energy transferal, which meant he had to be right above the generator room they were searching for.

"Ghost I'm fairly certain I’m close to our target, I'll scout around here while you catch up. Come down through the staff only door I was near, I'll be locking it so just walk on through."

Finished with his telepathic message stealth locked the staff door behind him and cautiously walked down the stairway. Reaching the bottom Varna began to update Inaba on his status as he kept an eye out for any guards.

"This is stealth, I'm closing in on the generator downstairs is there any kind of security mechanism I need to look out for?"

“Uh…†was all Ghost could muster as he tossed the radio to the floor and ground it with his boot. He played his gamble and lost, ultimately branding himself as a terrible risk taker; this would not go over well with the team. He had to salvage this somehow, and he would be damned to make it right. “Boring conversation anyway.†Thought Ghost to his teammate. “Stealth, we’re gonna have company!â€

Phase 1: complete

Ghost re-joined Stealth across the hallway, phasing through the door, but leaving ajar the heavier one he himself had been investigating just a few moments prior. The pair descended the stairs to the engine room floor almost soundlessly, dulled by the buzzing and thrumming of the heavy machinery around them. They saw three cylindrical generators, with streams of blue-white energy slithering up and down inside their central tubes. The cables stretching out of the centremost machine and along the floor were trailing to the wall beneath the stairs, the one on the left was connected to the farthest wall, and the one on the right snaked its metallic tendrils in the direction the two Tagers had entered the building from.

There was only one security camera, high up in a corner where it could scan the entirety of the room. Inaba could see the shape of a lone security guard near the left machine. Upstairs, the female security guard had her pistol out, and she was talking quickly into her comm to the other two guards, who had previously been out of earshot. The suited man from Chrysalis had paused briefly to listen in on their conversation with his earpiece, but picked up his pace again rather swiftly.

"Ah, there you are." Inaba muttered as the two infiltrators came back onto her scope. "Right, you two. You've got company incoming. Three security guards upstairs, and it looks like an interested bureaucrat. Probably Chrysalis' special security. You've got one security guard in the room with you. Sneak past him and find the controls to open that gate." She paused. "Ghost, see about finding some way to disable the generator once the gate is open."
