Anyone else thinks that Jetman is somewhat overrated by the toku fandom?

Why has a thread about Jetman turned into Gokaiger-bashing? I repeat the comment I've made many times before: No one who liked Gokaiger is going to stop liking it just because you rant about it in every thread.

How the hell is this Gokaiger bashing. Saying Gokaiger is overrated is NOT bashing. Did I say anything negative about the show? No I didn't. There was hardly any Gokaiger bashing on this thread. I enjoyed Gokaiger. Saying it's overrated is not the same as hating or bashing it. I like Megaman 2, but it's overrated.

On the subject of Jetman itself ... I've read on here that one reason it's such a hit in Japan is that it was considered very different from anything else that had been done in the franchise at the time. I guess it is, but unless you were around and watching Jetman at the time or you'd seen a bunch of its predecessors before watching Jetman, it's hard to get the full effect of that. Maybe that's one reason it gets hit with the "overrated" label.

it was considered very different from previous sentai series; but since Jetman is a Gatchaman homage, it's obvious something else similar has been done before, if ever in anime
btw, lazy; you prefer Fiveman over Jetman? I thought Jetman was among your top favorites ?

Everything except the Fiveman, sorry! I like the bits I've seen but never finished it! But, yes, I do like Jetman a lot

It's okay.

Jetman is one of my favorite series. One of the flaws I've noticed with the show is that Kaori is sort of a Mary Sue. I don't hate the character, although she did kick Raito in the balls for no reason (why the hell did she do that for?). Well that's not the point. The point is that she is liked by Gai and Raito. So she is at some point loved by Gai, loved by Raito, and later loved by Ryu.

Kaori is pretty and all, but Ako is prettier. She was the only member on the team who is actually more original from her Gatchaman counterpart.

I think the reception to Jetman used to be much worse before, but it has calmed down by now, I attribute that to Liveman in part (which I should watch someday).

No MM2 is not overrated. I don't even know where you would get that it is.

Yeah, I don't know about that. The only thing that Jetman does differently than any Sentai before it is heavily focusing on having "romances" within the team. And I think that's actually one of the show's weaker points -- it just doesn't work. Koutarou Tanaka makes Ryu such a doofus, there's Gai's nonstop hounding, and Kaori's oblivious to BOTH guys' feelings, and then there's the really out of nowhere reveal that even Raita has a thing for her.

I thought Jetman made its heroes more diverse/distinct from each other and made them continually clash, and that made it stand out from other Sentais.

Is my memory correct? I thought it was more like Gai likes Kaori, but Kaori likes Ryu? Then we're supposed to ignore Raita's feelings for Kaori.

As I've said, I like Kaori. But I think Ako is a more interesting character than her. She is one of the more original teammates. I'm glad the two parter that introduces Jet Garuda focuses on her.
