EA Gives Projections For Star Wars Battlefront, States They Have Learned From Past Mistakes
For EA, there is no bigger game in their lineup currently than the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront. Mainly because this game not only has a loyal fanbase, but serves a pre-cursor to one of the most highly anticipated movies in years, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Many fans are a tad bit worried over some of the things they’ve been hearing about the game, along with still having memories of the disaster that was the Battlefield 4 launch. During an investor meeting yesterday (which was reported by IGN), EA tried to ease gamers feelings.
“We learned a lot coming out of Battlefield 4,” said EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen. “We’ve launched a lot of large-scale titles on our infrastructure [since BF4], like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Battlefield Hardline… We’ve been making significant investments into core infrastructure in security and stability. We can never foresee everything, but we’ve demonstrated that we learned some things from the past. We don’t expect anything unforeseen around Star Wars.”
They then talked about how they feel Star Wars Battlefront will do sales wise. Needless to say, they’re aiming high.
“We certainly hope we can leverage a lot of the hype,” CFO Blake Jorgensen said. “We’re thinking about [Battlefront’s sales projections] as two bookends. One bookend is the historical Battlefront, which did roughly 9 million units. The other bookend is our first-person shooter franchise, Battlefield, which typically does around 15 million units. We’ve put in there roughly nine to 10 million units for the title, which we believe is the upside if things go well. It is Gen-4 only and PC, so that needs to be factored into people’s thinking.”
It appears EA is not only confident they’ll make Battlefront work, but that they’ll be able to get some pretty big numbers from it. We’ll have to wait until its November 17th release to see if that happen.
