Per an announcement by Bryan Singer this week on Periscope, fans will finally get a chance to view the extended cut of the highly acclaimed comic book superhero movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past in July. Dubbed the “Rogue Cut,” this new version of the film will feature 17 minutes of additional footage. The most exciting part of the news is that fans will get to experience an excised subplot from the film involving Anna Paquin as Rogue, hence the film being considered the “Rogue Cut.”
It was previously known there was a sequence in the film where Rogue is rescued from a mutant prison, and she returns to the temple where Wolverine aka Logan is to help with his time travel mission. Assuming since Rogue’s power is to absorb the abilities and powers of other mutants, she probably absorbs the powers of Kitty Pryde to give Kitty a break so the ability can continue to be used on Wolverine. Unfortunately, the scenes did not make it into the final cut, even though Anna Paquin as Rogue was heavily featured in the film’s promotional materials.
Some fans have often been disappointed with Rogue’s depiction in the live-action X-Men film franchise. Case in point, instead of having Rogue step up to join her friends in battle in X-Men 3: The Last Stand, she became a passive character. She opted to take a “cure” to her mutant powers that only worked temporarily. In comparison to the character in the comics, it was in many ways a departure and arguably a disgrace to the spirit of the Rogue.
The X-Men: Days of Future Past Rogue Cut arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on July 14. The film is currently available for pre-order on Digital HD at FoxDigitalHD.com.
