One welcome surprise from Square this E3 has been their renewed focus on supporting their lesser, more cult-like properties. First we finally get Collection of Mana on Switch, and now the long-neglected SaGa series is returning Westside at last with the confirmed release of two titles — one new, one old.
First comes Romancing SaGa 3, a game originally released in Japan in 1995. This remastered version contains the same deep story and detailed graphics, but adds a 16×9 aspect ratio, new scenarios, new dungeons to explore and a New Game+ feature when you finish all that. Best of all, it’s coming out for EVERYTHING, including Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, XBox One, PS Vita (not a mistake), PC via Steam, iOS and Android.
The second release is SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions, an enhanced version of a game that came out exclusively in Japan in 2016. Like Romancing SaGa, it contains a number of improvements over the original, but you won’t notice since everything will be new here.
Newcomers and longtime fans of the franchise can shape their own adventures with one of four protagonists, Urpina, Taria, Balmant, and Leonard, each with their own unique storyline, allowing players to enjoy four different RPGs in one title.
With its first Western release, AMBITIONS builds upon the original Japanese release with a variety of improvements and additions to the original, including new and improved graphics, character voiceovers, weapons, skills and more. In addition, players will have access to more than 70 allies to potentially add to their party and test out different battle strategies with the new turn-based timeline system as they conquer new scenarios, monsters and bosses on their journey.
SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is coming to Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, iOS and Android (no XBox this time). Both games do not have a release date, but are listed as “coming soon.”
