Disney Releases First Trailer For Wish
As you know, because they have spelled it out many times, the Walt Disney Studio turns 100 this year. (So does Warner Bros, in fact, but they’re in a much less healthy position to celebrate.) Given that this massive company was founded on the art of animation, the higher-ups figured it should celebrate with a special animated movie devoted to the themes that have become synonymous with Disney — magic, stars, wish-granting, fairy tales, enchanted communities. Jumble up those things and you get Wish, coming to theaters this November.
Asha is a teenager from the country of Rosas, known for the possibility of granting wishes for those who gaze upon the stars. Asha does just that and she doesn’t just get her wish — she gets the star itself. It makes her pet goat talk and does a bunch of other things. Now she’s got to keep the star out of the hands of Rosas’ monarch, King Magnifico — one of the few royals in a Disney movie who’s actually evil.
While Wish is another CG-animated film, it does incorporate 2D elements from Disney’s past, like the star itself and its effects. The movie stars Ariana DeBose as Asha, Chris Pine as Magnifico, and Alan Tudyk as Valentino the goat (this has to be a typo because that goat totally sounds like Patrick Stewart). Chris Buck, director of Frozen and Frozen 2, also directed Wish alongside and Fawn Veerasunthorn (Raya and the Last Dragon). This movie comes true November 22.
