You Can’t Sell Lord British’s Blood On eBay So Don’t Try
Richard Garriott, aka Lord British, is a famed video game developer who founded the Ultima series, a set of PC games instrumental in founding the modern RPG. He also attempted to sell his blood recently; it didn’t work.
To put this in proper context, the Lord British plasma was part of an art piece by artist Steve Brudniak. Twelve reliquaries were made in all as a crowdfunding effort for his next game, “Shroud of the Avatar.” Garriott planned to sell these to raise part of the money, and put up a video of his blood being drawn as proof that yes, these plaques really contain his DNA. That may not have been wise.
eBay took the auctions down immediately, because as it turns out, it’s against their policy to sell blood on the website. This list extends to all human organic matter including organs, bones, and Tibetan prayer skulls. This is for good reason; we can’t have grave robbers desecrating cemeteries for quick auction money, can we? That would be awful.
But it raises the question: how would you go about selling THIS?
If you really really had your heart set on owning Lord British’s blood, he’s still selling the things, just privately now. Reserve prices start at $5000.
