Wii U Hits Big Milestone, Splatoon Sales Continue to Rise
It’s been no secret that Nintendo has struggled in this current console war with the Wii U. Even though Nintendo’s console launched first, they made several mistakes that hindered their sales. The Wii U itself as a name severely hurt, as many thought the touchscreen focused Gamepad was just an extension of the Wii, instead of being part of a new console. Despite the struggles, Nintendo has pressed on, all the while delivering the games and content that die hard fanboys and fangirls have known Nintendo to deliver. Now, the Wii U has passed a significant landmark, with over 10 million consoles sold.
The reveal came as Nintendo announced their quarterly financials, in which Nintendo revealed that although sales were down in both console and software, they made a substantial profit this year. In comparison, this time last year they had a near record loss of profits. One of the key games that has helped Nintendo recently has been Splatoon, and it can be stated that the game sold nearly 1.65 million copies in its first month of release.
Also, while no concerete numbers were given, Amiibo sales were said to be very favorable. And with more waves coming out, and fans still wanting many of the previous waves, it looks like this could be just the start of many profitable quarters for Nintendo.
