The Witch: The Other One | There’s Another Witch?

“The Witch” is a Korean film that come in two parts, categorized as Science Fiction, Action, Horror, Mystery, Thriller, and some elements of Supernatural. “The Witch: The Subversion” is Part 1, was released in 2018, and is streaming on Viki; and “The Witch: The Other One” is Part 2, was released in 2022, and is streaming on Hulu.

SUMMARY: A top-secret Witch Program. Research continues concerning Recombinant DNA (rDNA). Those mad scientists let another one of their test subjects escape.

♦ The Witch: Part 2. There’s Another One?

In Part 1, Ja-Yoon escaped the laboratory when she was 8 years old and was fortunate enough to be adopted by a loving couple and grew up on a farm. It was a quiet and peaceful life. She didn’t know the story about her real mother and didn’t even know she had a twin sister.

The mother had been kidnapped because the scientists knew she was pregnant. They were experimenting with recombinant DNA (rDNA) and planted another embryo in the mother’s womb to make a twin. It would be another test subject, and hopefully she’d turn out even better than Ja-Yoon.

The “other one” didn’t even have a name. She’s just a “girl”. The laboratory where she was being “raised”(?) was attacked.  Some people are determined to shut down the top-secret Witch Program. When they find the lab, they go inside the facility guns blazing and wipe out everyone and anything that moves.

The “girl”  should have died, but she managed to walk out of the laboratory, bloody but still breathing. She got to a road and a car stopped to pick her up. They were bad guys and didn’t know who they were messing with. She didn’t kill them, but they needed to go to the hospital.

It so happened that the bad guys had picked up another woman, Kyung-Hee, and she was in the car, being taken somewhere to be bullied and threatened. She owned a piece of land and wouldn’t sell. They thought they could persuade her. The “girl” ended up rescuing her, and since it was obvious she had nowhere to go, Kyung-Hee took her home and gave her food, clothing, and shelter.

But? She wasn’t quite sure what else to do. I mean … this “girl” is clearly “different”.

It sure was nice to have her around when bad guys showed up. However, Kyung-Hee is unaware that some people want to track her down and destroy her, while others want to drag her back to the lab for more experiments. Kyung-Hee will soon realize that she’s stuck in the middle. Both groups are extremely dangerous, much worse than the bad guys. The “girl” rescued her once, but might not be able to save her again.

“The Witch: The Other One” had mixed reviews. But I thought it was just as good as Part 1, “The Witch: The Subversion”.
