GKIDS Summer Anime Movie Release Schedule

The theaters are opening back up, and so is the schedule for anime distributor GKIDS. Since you more than likely missed the original theatrical debuts of films like Weathering With You and Lupin III: The First, GKIDS is putting them on the big screen again for two nights apiece. The screenings begin June 13 with Children of the Sea, which screens its dub June 13 and its sub June 15. Weathering With You will return the following month with its dub July 25 and its sub June 27. Lupin III: The First comes back August 27 in dub form and August 29 in sub form, and the schedule wraps up with the return of Promare on September 16 (dub) and September 18 (sub). Weathering With You Comes To Digital, Blu-Ray And DVD

Weathering With You, the follow-up to director Makoto Shinkai and producer Genki Kawamura;’s mega-hit Your Name, will be hitting disc formats early next month…and digital formats this very second. Weathering With You had its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and its US premiere at the Animation is Film Festival in Los Angeles. The latter screening completely sold out. The US dub of the movie features the voices of Lee Pace as Suga, Alison Brie as Natsumi, Riz Ahmed as Takai and many others. The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Director Makoto Shinkai and producer Genki Kawamura produced the anime hit of the decade with Your Name, a film that set box office records in Japan and won fans around the world. Now their follow-up film, Weathering With You, will open tonight in limited preview screenings, followed by a wide release across the US this Friday. Is it just as good? The 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes speaks for itself. The movie had its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and its US premiere at the Animation is Film Festival in Los Angeles. The latter screening completely sold out. Both sub and dub versions of Weathering With You will be screened; don’t sell the dub short — it has the vocal talents of Lee Pace as Suga, Alison Brie as Natsumi, Riz Ahmed as Takai and many others.
