Ubisoft Purchases Guitar Hero Live Dev From Activision

Ubisoft has bought the developer behind Guitar Hero Live and DJ Hero from Activision. UK-based FreeStyleGames will now be integrated within the French publisher and be renamed to Ubisoft Leamington. According to Ubisoft, the studio will work directly with Ubisoft Reflections on their products. This developer has previously contributed to games such as The Crew and The Division but is probably more known for its work on creating the Grow Home series of games. However, the company is not as big as it once was as it faced a number of layoffs recently while still part of Activision. Activision has also made it clear that they will be continuing support for Guitar Hero Live for the foreseeable future. During today’s special Apple conference, Apple and Activision announced that Apple TV will have video game support later this fall. This includes Guitar Hero Live, Skylanders SuperChargers and Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved. What does this mean? Gamers will be able to play all these games at home in their living rooms with Apple TV, while also being able to take them on the go with iPhone or iPad. In addition, you can even take Guitar Hero Live on the go with the Bluetooth Guitar controller, which works on iOS devices. Activision has announced the return of the Guitar Hero franchise. After a hiatus, the franchise is slated to return this fall with Guitar Hero Live. The franchise goes next-gen and will boast some new features, including live action, first-person gameplay and reactive crowds. In addition, Activision has released a new reveal trailer for the game, which is available in the player below. Guitar Hero Live is developed by FreeStyleGames, the studio behind DJ Hero and DJ Hero 2. It will feature two ways to play; the first of which is GH Live, a first-person point-of-view where players will take the stage as the star of the show. Activision says GH Live will be a “live-action experience” to simulate performing on stage with a band in front of crowds.
