SDCC 2016: Marvel Teases Death Of X Storyline
The X-Men franchise has been in a curious place in the last few years, several status changes have caused the once juggernaut franchise to be called into question in regards to how Marvel views them. This is personified in the “Death Of X” storyline coming this October, which will reveal a long hidden truth since the Secret Wars conclusion about the fates of Cyclops and other various mutants.
Marvel editor Axel Alonso talked about the importance this story will have:
“This is a huge story. It’s going to fill in the gap between the end of Secret Wars and what’s happening now. You’ll find out where Cyclops has been, where Emma [Frost] has been, and how their fates dovetail into this conflict.”
He also talked about the rumors of the removal of the X-Men from the Marvel comics lineup “Well, with the imminent cancellation of the X-Men…”, he recognized the concerns many fans have, though did little to alleviate them.
“We’ve been dealing with rumors of the X-Men’s demise for years and years. At this point we just want to taunt you a little bit. We’re aware of how this looks, you’ll just have to be patient…it’s very much an exclamation point story”
We’ll have to see what is fact and what is fiction this October.
