Nintendo Switch Online’s Next Update Is All Mario

Nintendo has picked May 26 (the same day you can’t watch Willow anymore) to post its next Switch Online update — this one for the GBA section. And this time, we’re getting three games at once…and not just any three but three of the greatest games ever made.

The first three Super Mario Advance games will be added that day, which are really Super Mario Bros 2 (All-Stars version), Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. Enjoy the 96 exits of Dinosaur Land, pulling up turnips, and chasing after an incessantly crying baby in a bubble. These games will never get old.

Only problem is that this is a bit redundant. The original versions of Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island are already on NSO, and they’re part of the non-expansion section, so you don’t have to pay extra to get them. There are differences between the SNES and GBA versions of the latter two games, but they amount to a lighter color palette (to make up for the GBA’s dark screen), a widescreen ratio and the addition of voice samples (“Just what I needed! Mama miaaaaa….”)

UPDATE: Yoshi’s Island on GBA actually contains additional levels.

But we suppose there are gamers out there whose childhood memories of these games didn’t come from the originals, but from the portable versions, and so it’s nice to be thorough and include every version. Mario Mania hits NSO May 26.

I wasn't aware that the GBA version of Yoshi's Island includes additional levels. That's definitely an intriguing bonus for fans of the game. I can't wait to take on those extra challenges. I am a Nintendo Switch player, I appreciate the effort Nintendo puts into expanding their online library. The addition of these classic Mario games showcases their commitment to providing a diverse range of titles for their subscribers.

Although I already own the original versions of Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island, I'm still excited about their inclusion in the Switch Online update. It's convenient to have them all in one place and easily accessible whenever I want to indulge in some Mario nostalgia. The Super Mario Advance series has always been a favorite of mine, and I'm thrilled that Nintendo is bringing them to NSO. Whether it's pulling up turnips in Super Mario Bros 2 or guiding Yoshi through his colorful adventures, these games never fail to bring a smile to my face.

I am a devoted fan of the Mario franchise, I'm always excited to see what Nintendo has in store for us. While these games may not introduce groundbreaking innovations, they still hold immense value as timeless classics. Having them on NSO ensures that new generations can experience the magic that has captivated players for decades.
