It’s still hard to believe, but next year there will be an official Legend of Zelda movie. Details are still light on the plot (we suspect a fight against a giant pig-man for the possession of some magic triangles will be a factor) but more members of the cast are coming to light.
First we heard that Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is playing Link and Bo Bragason is playing Zelda….not really big names, but depending on the movie’s reception, they could be. Now we have our Ganon (or at least the “Dorf” version) confirmed: Uli Latukefu will play the power-hungry villain, the sole male leader of the Gerudo with plans to dominate all of Hyrole, no matter how many generations it takes and how many Links and Zeldas he has to fight to get there. Latukefu’s most promiment role prior to this was the young version of The Rock in the NBC sitcom called..well, Young Rock.
There is more casting news beyond that. The late Sam Neill has been confirmed to be in this film, playing what may be his final role. Exactly WHAT role hasn’t been revealed yet. They haven’t told us what role Dichen Lachman (Apple TV‘s Severance) is playing either, but leaks from the set pretty much confirm she is Zelda’s assistant Impa. The final announced cast member (for now) is Yvonne Strahovski, which according to the notes is best known for The Handmaid’s Tale and some other things I don’t watch. In my book she will always be Sarah Walker from Chuck, and also the lead role from a 24 miniseries that positioned her to be the next Jack Bauer (but Fox didn’t go through with it because they’re dumb).
Late in the day we heard of a sixth cast member announcement: Lydia Peckham. I REALLY don’t know who that one is. Nor do I have any idea who she could be playing….a Deku Scrub?
The Legend of Zelda movie will be directed by Wes Ball and will be released April 30, 2027 in theaters.
