Game Of Thrones Showrunners To Make Star Wars Film Series
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…a movie was born. That movie led to two other movies. Which led to three movies that told the story before those original three movies. Then there was cartoons, a live-action special (that true fans don’t talk about), and then, via Disney, three more movies and a spinoff film or two. And now, we’re going to get another trilogy, and another film series. This is all Star Wars by the way.
Lucasfilm has announced that the showrunners behind the massively successful Game Of Thrones series is going to be writing a new series of films based in the Star Wars universe. To be clear, this will not be a part of the Skywalker Saga or the trilogy that will be helmed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. Here’s the official word from both sides:
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”
