Game Done Quick’s Frost Fatales Generates Over $150,000 For Malala Fund
Though Games Done Quick is most known for their twice-a-year speedrunning marathons, they hold other events throughout the year, and last week belonged to Frost Fatales, their all-female winter speedrunning event. Though not as huge as Awesome Games Done Quick or its summer equivalent, the event did fine for itself, raking in over $150,000 for the education-focused Malala Fund.
Frost Fatales had a smaller schedule to work with, halved in size from a typical GDQ at just twelve hours per day. Despite this, they found time to tear apart pver 60 games during the marathon, including Stray, Metroid Dread, Cult of the Lamb, Untitled Goose Game, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Shadow The Hedgehog, Okami HD, Dark Souls II, Tetris The Grand Master, the NES homebrew Witch ‘n Wiz, and others. Like the larger events, Frost Fatales included donation incentives, prizes and interviews, as well as a video from Malala herself. “You have to begin by believing in yourself for any change that you want to see … This is a message for women and everybody else,” Malala told the audience. “You can play a significant role in making this world a better place for all.”
Altogether the $150,000 this marathon took in was an improvement over the $135,000 they got the last time they did this, Flame Fatales during the summer. If there’s anything you missed, every game in the run has already been archived on the GDQ YouTube channel, so check it out when you get a chance.
