On May 4 Disney+ will premiere the first episode of The Bad Batch, an entire series based on an episode from The Clone Wars’ final season. I’ve never seen the episode, so I have no idea why the Batch is Bad. Watching the episode would only create confusion of another kind, as Clone Wars is episodic and I wouldn’t know what ELSE is going on. There’s no time to watch every single episode of Clone Wars before The Bad Batch premieres. If only there was some kind of easily digestible, edited quickie special that could bring me up to speed.
Disney won’t do it, but Funimation will. On April 23, they’re releasing the first feature film based on the popular anime Demon Slayer. The movie, subtitled Mugen Train, takes place after the events of the first 26-episode season. Odds are pretty good anyone who goes to see that movie will have already seen the show, but in case anyone hasn’t, Funi has provided a solution.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Sibling’s Bond, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mt. Natagumo Arc and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Hashira Meeting Arc are three recap specials that, taken together, comprise the entire series before Mugen Train. And as of today, they’re fully watchable on Funimation’s streaming channel. Once you watch these specials you’ll be fully educated in the goings-on of Demon Slayer, whether you’re a newbie or you haven’t seen it in a while and just need a refresher.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train opens exclusively in theaters Friday, April 23, 2021, including in 4DX and on IMAX screens. Both sub and dub versions will be available. You can get tickets now at funimation.com/demonslayermovie. For those who’d rather wait for the digital release, that’s coming June 22.
