I am old enough to remember the phenomenon that was and still is Power Rangers. I didnt start watching it straight through till Season 2 of MMPR. But I watched reruns of the first season while watching the second one and didnt stop watching till Time Force. Since then, I have seen all of Dino Thunder, and more than half of Ninja Storm.
For me, part of it is nostalgia. I mean, who doesnt want to remember the simpler times as a kid. Coming home from a not-so-hard day in school to sit in front of the set and watch an episode of your favorite heroes and see how they foil Lord Zedd and Rita's plot today. That show really did teach me a lot as a kid, believe it or not. But, thats not the only reason I watch it. I mean, right now I mainly watch Sentai and Kamen Rider (well, more KR this season cuz Go-onger aint really cuttin it for me. But thats another story), which is basically aimed at around the same age group. The reason why I watch it now at age 23 is cuz it still appeals to me in some way. First off, I love action, whether its Kung Fu flicks or good ol' American action movies. Its my genre of choice, and PR still packs quite a lot of it. But, it does still possess a deep enough storyline to captivate me. Granted, it has not been that way, IMO, in the past few seasons since Dino Thunder. But, the shows that I do go back and see, especially In Space, Lost Galaxy, and Time Force, seemed to possess the heart within its storyline that was deeper than the conventional Saturday morning kids TV show.
Many people do not like it now, but I remember how it was back in 1993-1995-ish. You couldnt go anywhere without seeing those infamous colored costumes and designed helmets, whether its was toys, promotion banners. You name it, there was probably a PR version of it somewhere. I even remember when I first heard about the MMPR movie. That sent everyone over the edge. I guess some of that excitement still stays with me till this day. Its the equivolent of the Star Wars craze or the Transformers craze, just for our generation. But, im not sure if a show will have an impact like PR had. Its kinda hard to phathom that.
