Why in the hell did Ultraman Nexus fail?

It seriously is one of the better Tokus out there, in that its not too complicated for kids not to get, but still fits adults story and character needs. The host dies, for real, which...in itself is epic enough for a toku, and to boot its in the middle of the series! I just don't get how something this good could not work. The whole N-Project could've really gone somewhere if The Next was percieved as being a better movie *I didn't like it much, but the sequel would've been MUCH better*

And on a side note, wiki says there was a teaser for the second Next movie shown somewhere....does anyone know of its existance anywhere?

i think it was becuse they changed the time slot,so not many people got interested in it.i like nexus but like someone said Darker hardly equels better

Nexus was a great show, but airing at around 7:00AM is probably what killed it in the ratings. I can't imagine too many people would want to be up that early for something like it. I always thought Nexus was the one tokusatsu that knew how to handle the dark aspect, unlike GARO and other late night shows that were dark just for the sake of being dark, Nexus felt like it had a deeper story to tell.


The rumor I've always heard was that Nexus was meant to air in do-roku, the Saturday night prime time slot, but that was bumped for Gundam SEED Destiny which left it with an early morning slot. Nexus had some below average toy sales, which lead to MAX, which while an amazing series, was essentially just a filler series, its ratings were only about 2% better than Nexus, but it had decent toy sales, and then Mebius came and knocked it out of the park in most aspects.

I loved Nexus, and I'm not a huge Ultraman fan, so it figures the Ultraman I end up loving was a failure with the mass audience. :shakefist

See, I like other ultraman shows, but I think everything past Gaia has been complete crap. Especially the last two, they've effectively lost the ability to tell a good story, or have good hosts for their ultras (and mostly not even have good defence force characters, although there are some that were cool) and have turned it into a waste. Max was HORRIBLE to me, and Mebius wasn't much better *although the movie I thoroughly enjoyed* Nexus was the exception in that timeframe. After seeing it, I thought I could expect good things to come. The last four series (counting 7X and the Ultra Battle) have been such disapointments.

And as for being darker...I almost wouldn't say it was too much darker...maybe moreso than Cosmos, but some of the old school ultras were just as dark. All that Nexus had was a story, thats all. To me it'll always be Ultraman Tiga as number 1 in my heart, but Nexus is almost comparable to it.

Nexus failed because it wasn't Ultraman. It was Men in Black ****, a failed concept of jumping powers, and a horrid plot. I am personally glad if failed. It getting canned made way for Max and Mebius.

The only thing i really liked out of the Ultra N project was "The Next." Nexus was just crazy and felt like men in black had am orgy with Ultraman. it didnt have ANY aspects of the ultraman formula. I mean i dont care about some no name kid who has the power to unlock Noah. I want a main who is the ultraman/seven for the whole series and not for it to get tossed around like Zabee.
