Why I don't like Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger / Sentai Anymore

why not bring back metal heroes again for a while... spider-man did a big help to sentai during its break...

sure there maybe drama to sentai but it still feels repetitive... i dunno... maybe the color scheme? i'm not asking for a change of the usual color but maybe they could do a more darker shade and be much more realistic...

the KR franchise still has part of the original creator's family(i guess) involved in the franchise which could be the reason why toei couldn't really messed it up

I don't think Super Sentai needs a break, just some more creative reimagining of the franchise to keep it fresh & interesting. There are still alot of themes yet to be explored, and ideas yet to be tried. Toei proved that they are willing to try things differently, such as the Go-On Gold & Silver, female Shinken Red, and the like, and if they keep giving the series a new wrinkle here and there the audience will be interested. I do think that they have, by and large, moved the franchise into a more lighthearted direction lately, and I'd love to see them going for a darker, and more mature approach in the future, like Jetman, Maskman, and Timeranger.

When the Japanese market starts to prefer "darker" series again, that's when we'll see a return to them. But it doesn't look like that's going to happen for some time - especially after the recent natural disasters in Japan, people don't want doom and gloom in their entertainment.

Don't forget also that Sentai used to be marketed as a show for the whole family, including more complex and mature themes that older viewers could appreciate - much like Doctor Who is marketed these days. Whereas now, Sentai is treated very much as a kid's show for a target audience of 3 to 8-year-olds

i dont think KR is still being marketed as a family show today but they still can do more complex and mature themes...

i think toei i just swapping any themes they could think up and slaps it into their 5 colored costumes setting... i know they could do better than this...:disappoin

So you're saying Stan Lee should accept Toei's offer and make a sequel or spinoff of the Japanese Spiderman? How would that help Sentai?

I would love a remake of the Ishinomori series of Goranger and JAKQ ala the First, minus the romantic subplots in exchange for an era piece like Captain America.

I think doing a space series in a completely new direction, or I mean, the original concept for Megaranger which was this :

I wouldn't mind if they did something like OOO concept wise as I love it so far , on episode 7 now.

But yeah, I would like a darker series like Liveman or Ohranger with some comedic light moments to offset any high tension, kinda like Avatar. Have a balance between both, otherwise you'll get an emo laced gore battle royale like in most American comics or a fluffy-uber-happy-that's-crazy-series-where -no-one-dies-or-cries.

That's why I prefer Kamen Rider over Sentai in a sense. While it can be goofy , it can be so serious it bites you in the butt.

I think Kamen Rider's format is much more flexible than Super Sentai's, so it gives them a creative freedom that sentai series doesn't have. But one thing that Super Sentai does have but KR does not is attractive girls who also kick butt, since girls in the KR series are generally supporting roles who (except for a few exceptions) don't henshin. I love pretty girls, but I also like to see them beating up monsters and save the day.

That really is so crummy, too. It's nearly as much a defining trait of the franchise as "using the enemy's power against them" or "motorcycles;" obvious exceptions excluded. It's not an era thing, either; toku shows before and during Rider's heyday had more than their share of ass-kicking ladies. For all that people like to say it's similar to Rider, Metal Hero was not at all afraid of it.

It's not just that they're supporting roles but they're almost always the same character type: the demure girl who acts as the hero's cheerleader. There are some variations on this theme (Natsumi is more sultry, Yuki is more energetic, etc.) but with a few exceptions, that's basically the default Kamen Rider leading lady. Even when they deviate from it, such as with Akiko, she was still the ONLY recurring character in the whole show that never used a Memory

Gokaiger is indeed stale. As for Goseiger, I couldn't get passed episode 25 or 26. It's the first time I couldn't finish a SS since I got into Tokusatsu. I value Gekiranger now far more than I did when I was watching...not knowing whats coming down the road. It's not too late to fix it though. I'm sure they'll hit us with a good season soon (hopefully).

Even though KR does have a format, it's far more loose and forgiving than the one SS has. Metal Heroes on the other hand barely had any format, expect maybe metal suits with occasional mecha. This gave it the most freedom out of the 3.

Gokaiger saved Toei series in 2011 if you ask me, Kamen Rider OOO turned out to be really awful, boring, a big disappointment. hopefully Fourze is better.
I like to compare SentaixKamen Rider every year, and while i thought W was superior to Goseiger, Shinkenger pwned Decade big time, so its not like there is any trend. people should speak for themselves.
