Why do people complaining about The Matrix's sequels?

Nearly all sequels have this happen because the audience arrives with pre-conceptions and even expectations. They are forced to enter the original with a more open mind because it has no back story.

Once people have expectations it is never possible to please everyone.

Can't comment more specifically about Matrix because I actually never saw any of them, but the general principal applies to nearly all movies.

Sorry, but I don't buy this argument at all. You are just saying that anyone that didn't like the sequels to the matrix didn't like them ONLY because they are sequels? I mean come on you can do better than that.

The syndrome is well documented and spoken of often.

Haven't you ever heard the old saying that "Sequels are never as good as Originals"?

It stems from the same reasoning.

The audience is now full of many different sets of expectations. Only one small subset will have their expectations met and like it.

Of the rest, only a small subset will be open enough to what they are presented with to not be disappointed.

That means most will be dissatisfied.

Thus the complaints.

While not always the case, it holds true often enough to absolutely be a contributor in this situation.

Mostly because the Wachowski bros. lack discipline when writing and directing. They had came up with a sound philosophical story with founded concepts and problems that resonate thru the human populace but they forgot how to write believable human dialogue or believable human characters.

Also, people don't want to have a two and a half hour lecture about Humes and Objective conclusion when they're going in to watch the Adult Star Wars. Here you are sitting down to watch a movie to see people in trenchcoats kung fuing each other but you get a french guy giving you a speech about materialism with orgasmic chocolate cakes with Overtly Wicca/Taoist overtones. Wouldn't you be pissed off if you went to see a nice sweet romantic comedy but ended up watching Caligula?

Now I liked the Matrix trilogy, but I liked it for it's intentions and ideas rather then it's actual conclusion or merit as actual movies themselves.

Also, no body actually spoke like a human being would in those damn movies.

The original is the back story, but to make a sequel that follows the events without following the events of the first makes no sense. That's why people want to see a sequel that stays closer to the original rather than just go all free and it isn't done with the intention of using the main concepts of the first one and that doesn't stand well on its own.

People have expectations about almost everything. People have expectations about the first. I know I did and it exceeded those expectations. I did not expect much from the second one and I was still disappointed. The reason for that is that it wasn't very good at all. It was just CGI fighting with superhuman power. It didn't have those same ideas that made The Matrix good.

If you saw The Matrix, you would know this. The principle doesn't fit with it well.

The sequels weren't enjoyable because they made it into a bigger mess that wasn't needed at all. I hardly remember anything from the two sequels. I think Reloaded was not a bad movie but Revolutions was too complicated. I think what these two sequels brought are one of the reasons why a sequel is not needed.
