Most of the stories do include the reason why the cat and the rat hate each other now. In my favorite version the cat and rat were best friends and because neither could swim asked the ox if they could ride on his back as they crossed the river to the Emperor's palace. The Ox agreed (this would have placed the Ox, Rat and Cat in the top three spots) and as they were crossing the river, the rat pushed the cat off the Ox's back into the river. The cat couldn't swim and was swept away by the water. The Rat and Ox arrived, first and second, followed by the other animals. By the time the cat arrived to the Palace it was too late - he arrived in 13th place - and he was left out of the calendar. To this day the cat hates the rat for pushing him into the water and hates the water because it swept him away.

I've never heard of that little part of the story...how cool, considering I'm an ox!

ETA: Also, with that whole "early birthday thing" I always knew I was an ox on the cusp of being a rat....which means I have similarities from both areas....but now that site is telling me I'm a rat. O_O

I had to find out about the mistakes with the yearly changes for the Lunar Calender being transferred to our Solar Calender the hard way. I thought I was a Dog (being born in 1982) but only recently did I find out I was a Metal Rooster. Of course I'm a lot like a Dog and not the preening self-centered prick that a rooster guy/gal is so I always say I may be a cock, but I'm a loyal cock.
