Jetman 46 and 47: Demon King of the Tomato Field and Emperor Tranza's Glory

So, another day of Radiguet winning by using his enemies.

Am I right in assuming that the actor for Tranza is also Jin in Dairanger and the Beauty Beast in Liveman?

Jetman Episode 48 and 49: Kiss of Death and Love and Death

I thought this arc was great. They did go a bit too far with Gray crying over Rie, but otherwise it was pretty strongly played.

I really appreciate that Rie got to get that one blow in on Radiguet; true, I would have liked to have seen her decapitate him, but we do need to let the Jetman team defeat at least one Vyram member instead of letting Radiguet do it for them.

A strong end to a decent series.

Jetman Final Review on a scale of 1-5 Beak Smashers

Characters(Heroic)
I instantly fell in love with the cast of Jetman. Unlike Changeman, they all have distinct personalities, because they’re all from different backgrounds. I have to honestly say that my favorite is Raita.
Rating: 5 Beak Smashers

Characters(Villainous)
Yeah, the villains aren’t that great. Let’s face it. Radiguet is a petty hypocritical bastard, and that trickles down to the rest of the Vyram.
Tran/Tranza’s explosive/telekinetic gauntlets is a stupid gimmick. However, his plans as tranza are seriously evil and for the most part well thought out.
Gray and Maria, however, steal the show. I love them, and every interaction they had was great.
Rating: 2.5 Beak Smashers

Characters(Supporting)
For the majority of supporting characters, they’re really not that impressive. Raita’s girlfriend is there for one episode and the epilogue. The reverse sentai and the neo jetmen were there for two episodes.
The winners in the field of supporting characters are Commander Odagiri and Kaori’s butler.
Rating: 2.5 Beak Smashers

Storytelling
There is some really strong storytelling in this series, with a few missteps, such as the time travel episode and everything having to do with the love triangles. But the fact that not every episode required a giant robot fight, and the fact that the Vyram’s plans evolved through the course of the series is a welcome change.
Rating: 4 Beak Smashers

WorldBuilding

It’s never explained why the Vyram want to conquer worlds. Nor is anything ever done again with the EDF which is mentioned in two episodes. Two worlds exist in the reverse dimension that are worth noting, the Reverse world and Berserk.
Rating 2 Beak Smashers

Character Design
The Good: Jetman costumes, The Biojigen, Gray.
The Meh: The mechs, the jigen, the grinam soldiers.
The Bad: The absolutely 90’s nature of the Vyram Elite. Far too many swooping angles and spikes.
Rating: 2.5 Beak Smashers

Cinematography:
The effects and camera angles are nothing too impressive.
Rating 2.5

Music:
The Music in this series is actually rather impressive, with a constant motif of the one song that Maria plays for Gai echoing through it. The theme songs for Jetmen and Jet Garuda are really catching
Rating 3 Beak Smashers

Final Rating: 3 Beak Smashers

Reviewer Recommendation: Jetman is a decent series. Where it really shines is in the story department. It’s truly amazing for how the heroes evolve.

I think what really holds the Vyram back for me is the fact that there's no sense that they represent a larger force, it's just a couple of guys and their robot destroying the universe for kicks, so given how much they despise one another it's puzzling why they stick together.

Also, the epilogue never happened. It never, happened.

It's brutal to watch Gai just die like that, but it did happen. Just remember that he's in good company. Dragonranger, Timefire and Abarekiller are also with him, making for the most epic poker nights Valhalla has ever seen.

Oh, that's not what bothers me; Ryu and Kaori getting married despite the total of build-up towards that end in the actual series itself and Ako becoming an Idol despite the fact that there was an entire episode against such an end for her are far more bothersome for me than Gai's gratuitous and pointless shock-value death.

In any event though, are there any other tokus you plan on watching for the thread?

Ok, yeah. Really, all that mattered for me in the epilogue was Raita and Gai.

Power Rangers RPM is next, just for the comic value of these precure girls knowing the source material.

I also intend to hit up liveman, and if possible, a metal hero series. Maybe B-fighter or Gavan.
