I pretty much started with the Tiga-Gaia era. I'm now finally watching more of Gaia and am very much enjoying it.
Also Nexus and Ultraman The Next. I tend to think of the N-Project stuff as being like a Kuuga and Agito for Ultraman. While not the norm for Ultraman I thought it was an interesting experiment that produced some cool results while keeping a core that's still true to what Ultraman is about even though the setting is darker.
I also like Moebius but you might want to sample some classic Ultraman series before going to that one. Not that the show doesn't get you up to speed but it enhances things a bit if you have a little reference. I liked Moebius for how it blended slick new effects with the old Ultraman style and mythology.
