When it comes to Sentai...

I do remember Hurricane Blue being a little crazy, but MagiBlue was really tough as I remember vividly. also, housewives were always associated with tough, strong independant women and they were never considered "girlie".

It's just boring to have female Rangers in the same colours every year. If the male Rangers only ever wore red or blue, wouldn't it get boring fast? There'd be absolutely nothing wrong with a female Green or Black. Going by character types, I think Moune for instance could easily have been a Black and Agri could have been a Yellow

I dislike the idea that female Rangers must always wear "feminine" colours: pink, yellow, white, if she's a Blue it's got to be pastel blue. Also, girl Blues seem to have to "compensate" for wearing blue by being very girlie. For that reason I prefer male Blues, but a tough, competent female Blue would be awesome. I like tomboyish female Yellows, too - Yellow Mask, GekiYellow, GoseiYellow, AbareYellow, Yellow Racer ...

I personally like Blue as second in command because I love Blues, but having Black as second in command and Blue be a different character type (like Megaranger, Jetman, Maskman) can work really well. Alternatively, the team leader is female and Red is her second in command. I hope we'll see another series like that soon

Yeah and here is lazy's double standard. It's NOT ok for yellow's to be female, but it's OK for males to be yellow.

Green or Black Ranger?

Doesn't matter.

Blue Ranger as 2nd in command or Green/Black?

See above.

Yellow as girl or boy?

Same as before, but I'd like to see a show without Yellow. It's been 25 years since that has happened.

With some exceptions (like Burai, or AbareBlack) Green and Black Rangers tend to fall into certain character types:

Green - childish, lively and young (Mido Ranger, ShinkenGreen, Go-on Green, Green Rhino, TimeGreen)
Or eccentric (MagiGreen, DekaGreen, Green Racer, GingaGreen)

How was Hayate eccentric (beyond perhaps his fear of tomatoes, which I still don't get what that was about)?

Black - determined, belligerent, clashes with the Red (Black Condor, Go-on Black, BoukenBlack)
Or serious, intelligent and competent (Black Mask, MegaBlack, GaoBlack, Ninja Black)

While not an outright comic, I don't recall Jiraiya being particularly serious. If anyone in Kaku becomes serious and competent, it's Sasuke.

So which one of those you go for depends on the other characters and the mood of the show. I prefer Blacks, personally. Alternatively, have both, like Liveman or Go-onger

How about a show with both pink and white in the core team? That also hasn't happened in a quarter century.

Yeah and here is lazy's double standard. It's NOT ok for yellow's to be female, but it's OK for males to be yellow.

Every single year the girls on the team are pastel pink, yellow and occasionally pale blue (oh noes dark blue isn't feminine enough!) Whereas the guys can be red, blue, yellow, black, green, gold, whatever. Why not alternate the Blue and Yellow between male and female characters? Or have a female Black or Green?

Who cares? If you care so much about the color of each characters suit, you are watching sentai for the wrong reasons.

Because that "women should wear GIRLY colours!" crap is sexist. And it does stand out that in 35 years of the franchise we've NEVER had a female Black or Green (Mele is not a Ranger)

Toei isn't exactly the most progressive company, so I'm not sure you're going to find what you want with them.

So by your reasoning, yellow is a "girly" color. So that means that all the Yellow sentai guys are what? Girly? Feminine? What?

I agree. The last time that happened was in Changeman, I believe.

Exactly. Not to mention that they had guys play as a yellow color even before girls & women started to play as a yellow color. Plus even if they have actresses play as a yellow color, sometimes they would skip between seasons. As a matter of fact, here's the full list:

Male yellow: Kiranger, DenjiYellow, Vul-Panther, Goggle Yellow, DynaYellow, Yellow Lion, Yellow Turbo, Yellow Owl, TigerRanger, KirinRanger, NinjaYellow, GingaYellow, GoYellow, TimeYellow, GaoYellow, HurricaneYellow, & MagiYellow.

Female yellow: Yellow Four, Yellow Flash, Yellow Mask, Five Yellow, OhYellow, YellowRacer, MegaYellow, AbaYellow, DekaYellow, BoukenYellow, GekiYellow, Go-on Yellow, ShinkenYellow, GoseiYellow, & soon, GoukaiYellow.

So, that's a total of 17 actors that play as a yellow color, & now, 15 actresses that play as a yellow color. Plus we haven't had a actor to play as a yellow color since Magiranger.
