Whats a good epic anime I can get into?

In the end people can dislike eva. What is it about Eva and FF7 fans that make them go on the attack if people say one little bad thing about them?

Because it's either you think it's the best thing in the world, or they send the wolves after you...Naruto fans are just as bad I find it.

Sorry, but this is typical of hard core eva Fans. Some one says they don't like it, and you right off start the "It's a deep deep anime and you probably don't get it" please get some new material :/

I just have to laugh about that DBZ crack and claymore. I even question if you watched it at all. Anyway it's to bad you didn't like it if you watched it.

So far you haven't given me a reason why you don't like Evangelion. I gave you reasons why I didnt like Claymore and you didn't say anything to defend what made it so epic. From my knowledge, forums are about discussing, you dont seem to want to do that, you just seem to want to say you're right and i'm wrong.

Did you read the article? Did you attempt to see what made Evangelion so amazing? So are we going to have a good debate or are you just going to sit at your computer and never try to understand others points of view?

If he thinks Evangelion was a pile of garbage how about you just let him keep his opinion instead of trying to shoving yours down his throat?

How about you stop riding his dick and let him make his own opinion? I want to know KingRanger's reasons since he actually seems to have watched Evangelion and Claymore. In the future you should stay out of conversations on shows that you haven't seen.

This is an open forum discussion, and I'm free to post in whatever topic I so choose THANK YOU VERY MUCH. And I highly doubt that reading the article you posted would change how King Ranger feels on EVA.

Hard core eva fans can't comprehend anyone not liking it.

Evangelion fans don't come much harder core than myself, and I've no problems with people not liking it. In fact, I'm continually amazed it's achieved any real popularity outside of Japan. It's a commentary on franchises Americans don't watch, family issues Americans don't have, and criticizes a religion that roughly 5% of Americans believe in.

The original Superdimensional Fortress Macross is excellent, even by today's standards.

I've seen Evangelion three times all the way through since it came out, and I have to agree that it's overrated. It starts off really good, but then it gets too preachy and it feels like it's tryng to shove it's philosophy down your throat. Plus, if you have to keep making new endings for something every few years like it seems to do, then there's just something wrong.

Evangelion is one of those shows that hit at the right time to be a lot of people's "first" exposure to "real" Anime. As a result, you tend to get a lot of people who defend it with the rabidness of a nostalgic first love.

Of course, it also gets a lot of backlash as a result of its popularity. This can lead to situations where it's hard to tell if someone legitimately dislikes it (for whatever reason) or is only a poser trying to act like they're the "cool kid".

Personally, I still like it, if for completely different reasons now than when I first saw it years ago.

It's broadly believed by Evangelion fans that all of the main Evangelion "versions"-- and possibly all versions of the story, period, including weird crap like Angelic Days-- take place in a single continuity.

Evangelion's themes are heavily critical of popular Japanese Buddhist teachings, so "retellings" keep happening because the Instrumentality Gendo and SEELE are trying to achieve is essentially impossible.

So in futilely trying to end existence, they only ensure that it repeats itself over and over again, the same situations and problems re-occurring in slightly different ways due to the central characters' fundamental inability to change. Changes of genre and tone may be happening during an Instrumentality attempt or may be the universe attempting (and failing) at changing itself.

Kaworu Nagisa references this explicitly in the first "Rebuild of Evangelion" film, in fact, as does Anno's ongoing novel side-story project whose name I totally forget. I find this makes the decision to essentially split the Asuka Langley Sohryuu of old into two different characters in Rebuild very interesting.

(Obviously, aside from really sticking it to those Buddhist jerks, this holistic approach to Evangelion's constant barrage and remakes is also super-profitable for GAINAX. It means that they can pretty much release whatever they want and fans will probably try to rationalize it into the main canon!)

EDIT: Also, Macross totally kicks ass. Anyone interested in mecha anime should watch it and just pretend like the animation has aged better than it actually did. Then watch Do You Remember Love? and laugh at the first time a mecha production company came up with a wacky rationalization for retelling the same story in different ways!
