What Toku you hate/pisses you off?

Go-onger - Just feels too light hearted and cant get into it

KR Hibiki - I only hate the second part of the show(post- Kiriya). While I like Hibiki's character, they made him very overrated at that point. Not to metion the plot just started to not make sense.

Kamen Rider Kiva- More J-Drama than KR IMO. If they wanted to really give an 80s feel to the 1986 parts, they should give it the dynamic feel of one. Ishinomori does not approve.

Uh what? many story's of KR from what i've seen tries to be dramatic as possible! and Kiva actualy succeed with that. but it doesn't come any near J-drama.

The Ultraman franchise in general - I understand how important it is, but I just can't get into it. The giant battles bore the pants off me in Super Sentai and they do nothing for me in this either. The whole premise of Ultraman doesn't really set me alight either - it's just not my cup of tea.

Which series have you tried? I often find that people say this about Ultraman as a whole, but once you introduce them to the right series, they usually like them. If you haven't seen it yet, Ultraman Gaia and Ultraman Mebius are pretty great series, I tend to list Gaia as one of my favorite tokusatsu of all time. It has some really compelling plots and interesting characters, as well as some simple yet refined designs all around. Mebius is just good for a fun, lighthearted series with tones of seriousness and fun characters, the battles there certainly aren't boring...well not most of the time anyway. I've always been open to all types of action, so I guess the giant action in Ultraman pretty much feels the same to me as the human sized action in Kamen Rider and Super Sentai.

If you haven't seen it yet, Ultraman Gaia and Ultraman Mebius are pretty great series, I tend to list Gaia as one of my favorite tokusatsu of all time. I cant say I hate and Toku series but I do feel that Tomica Hero Rescue Force is trying to just jump into a world of Rider and Sentai for the money. To me there just freshmen.

Gaia isn't subbed, so I suppose that may be hard to watch, but maybe give the first episode of Mebius a try? It's being actively subbed and the episodes are pretty easy to find. Ultraman can definitely lend itself to seriousness, and as much as I liked The Next and Nexus, I prefer the other series that can find a good balance.

I definitely prefer to watch things that find a good balance between various tones - most of my favourite shows have a mix of drama, action, comedy, romance, etc. That's the sort of thing I tend to go for. Something that's just constantly serious usually alienates me after awhile.

I could appreciate Nexus was a pretty well put together show, but the characters didn't grab me at all and it all seemed slightly... I dunno, dreary I suppose. I don't necessarily expect to be grabbed straight away, but something there that can provide a glimmer of interest helps and Nexus didn't have it for me. Seven X just tried way too hard to be all grimdark, which kind of doesn't work when you've got a big silver man stomping around a miniature city.

Long story short, I'll definitely try Mebius. Cheers!
