What Final Games Are You Getting... for 2008?

Man, can someone explain to me WHAT the big deal about Multiplayer is these days? I mean it's great to be able to play with other people and all...but it's something I can live without.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous how multiplayer or co op can decide if a game's worth getting or not:redface2:

I don't think it can decide if a game is worth getting or not. Star Ocean 4 and Mass Effect 2 I doubt will have any multi-player and I'll be getting those day one. Same with Fallout 3.

But in shooters... for me it just bring back those Contra days or arcade shooters. If you're in an open ended game environment, everything just seems like it's more fun co-op.

Hrm... first, I need a 360 and a PS3, but after I get them...

Infinate Undiscovery
Mirror's Edge
Prince of Persia (Limited Edition)
Soul Calibur IV
Disgaea 3
Little Big Planet
Chrono Trigger DS

And... that's all I can think off the top of my head.

I think that's how it is for a lot of people. Unless a FSP is epicly unique and well written (re: BioShock) I would probably never replay a campaign more than once. Maybe a second time if it had an alternate ending. in the case of an FPS, yes, Multiplayer is a deciding factor for a lot of people, at least when it comes to whether or not they'll keep the game.

I agree. There are some games and game genres that are developed with multiplayer gameplay in mind. Look at most FPS, racing, and fighting games. However, there are games in those genres that are more single-player oriented such as Bioshock and the Metroid Prime series. Those are both very good games and tons of people bought them with the main story and gameplay mechanics in mind as opposed to how the multiplayer will be. I will admit that games such as Halo or Call of Duty have become a huge draw for the multiplayer crowd, but a majority of the people who buy those games for the deathmatching play through the main story first.

So... basically, I think that multiplayer is only important if you view it as such. Me? I prefer a long and well-written story and most of my multiplayer action is from Soul Calibur IV when I am hanging out at a friend's house or, when I was still playing, WoW. I also dislike FPS games.
