Ranking Final Fantasy Games: Where Does Each Title Stand for You?

I've been on a nostalgic trip down memory lane, playing through the various Final Fantasy titles, and it got me thinking about how each game stacks up against the others. My personal ranking always seems to stir up debate, so I'm curious to hear everyone else's list and reasoning behind it.

For me, the top three will always be Final Fantasy VII, IX, and X. VII revolutionized RPGs for so many fans, and despite its pixelated charm, it still hits all the right emotional beats. IX is pure love and whimsy, plus it celebrated all the classic elements that made the series what it is. As for X, the voice acting and the emotional weight of Tidus and Yuna's journey? Chef's kiss.

But I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the arguments for XIV! I mean, the way it evolved from ARR to Endwalker really shows what the series can do when it embraces multiplayer elements. And yes, I know some folks might give XII a hard time due to its unique mechanics, but I appreciate its boldness in ditching the turn-based formula and giving us the Gambit system instead.

What do you all think? Where would you place the classic titles? And are there any hidden gems in the series that deserve more recognition? Let's settle this ranking once and for all!

Final Fantasy rankings always spark some lively debate, and I love seeing everyone's different perspectives. I'm right there with you on VII being a game-changer, not just for its story, but the way it introduced so many players to RPGs. IX's charm is hard to deny, too; it really feels like a love letter to the entire series. I'll also throw in that X hit me hard with its emotional moments, especially with the themes of loss and acceptance.

XIV is a fascinating case. Its evolution is impressive, and despite my mixed feelings about MMO gameplay, I can appreciate how it's brought so many fans together. As for XII, I have a soft spot for it. The Gambit system is divisive, but I think it adds a unique layer to strategy, even if it takes some getting used to.

Hidden gems? I'd say IX deserves more recognition simply for its storytelling and character depth. I also think people overlook the charm of the remakes, especially when we consider how they build on the originals. What about you? Any particular character moments or mechanics in the lesser-discussed titles that really stuck with you?
